Big Science Stories this week

In booze news: A study at Dartmouth found drunk apes that loved fermented fruit millions of years ago might be why we can process alcohol so well. And chemists were able to brew up a new "super-alcohol" that they only theorized might exist in deep space. Sadly, you can't drink it though.

In Windex news: Chinese scientists created self-cleaning glass. It uses built-in electrodes to remove dust and other particles from its surface.

And in alien news: Hubble got the best shot yet of the interstellar object zipping through our solar system right now. Most experts think it's a comet.

In moon news: NASA is fast-tracking plans to build a nuclear reactor on the moon. We're in a race with China to get the first moon base built up there. They did that in the movie “Time Machine” & well it didn’t end up well for earth.

But an astronomer at Harvard says if that's true, it's a very strange comet. He thinks there's a good chance it's "not natural."

If it's aliens coming to check in on us, he estimates they'd get here between November 21st and December 5th. He even went so far as to say they "may come to save us, or destroy us." (!!!) But again . . . probably a comet.

One of the keys to a great road trip is a KILLER PLAYLIST . . . and for some folks, that might be just be going through Weird Al's discography from start to finish.

Someone went on social media and asked, "You're on a 12-hour road trip, and can only listen to ONE singer, who are you listening to?" And here were some of the most popular responses . . .

1. David Bowie. "You won't run out of songs, that's for sure."

2. Paul McCartney. Speaking of not running out of material, this is about a SINGER, so with Paul you'd get a big chunk of The Beatles, plus Wings.

3. Chris Cornell. You could go through Soundgarden and Audioslave.

4. Pink Floyd. David Gilmour has some solo work you could add to the mix.

5. Tom Petty.

6. Johnny Cash.

7. Paul Simon.

8. Led Zeppelin. That's Robert Plant. You could add some Alison Krauss?

9. Prince.

10. Queen. That's Freddie Mercury.

11. Radiohead. That's Thom Yorke.

12. Ozzy Osbourne. "All Aboard! Ha, ha, ha . . . ay . . . ay . . . ay . . ."

13. Pearl Jam. That's Eddie Vedder. Although for a very specific voice like Eddie, 12 hours might be a lot . . . even if you're into the later stuff.

14. Taylor Swift. On the flipside, Taylor offers some vocal variety.

15. Beck. And Beck offers plenty of musical variety . . . similar to those old-schoolers from the '60s, '70s, and '80s who were in multiple bands.

16. Michael Jackson.

17. Coheed and Cambria.

18. Beyoncé.

19. Dave Matthews.

20. Conor Oberst (of Bright Eyes)

21. Drake.

22. Morgan Wallen. Does he have enough material for 12 hours?

23. "Weird Al" Yankovic. A lot of people did mention him, actually.

24. One person said, "Depends . . . do I like the people I'm with? If I don't, then Barry Manilow."

25. This must be a joke: Quote, "I was driving to San Francisco from Las Vegas with my cousin. There and back, about nine hours each way, with one CD . . .

"Well, she thought it was a CD. It was a single. One song. Nickelback, 'How You Remind Me'. When we realized it was only a single, we went for it!! That's all we listened to the entire time, both ways . . .

"Now I have a strange reaction to it when it comes on somewhere."

Does a layover at an airport count as "visiting" a state? 14% of Americans think that's the minimum requirement to say you've "been" somewhere. 27% say driving through a state is the minimum . . . 21% say a full trip with sightseeing . . . and 2% think even just flying over a state counts?

New Movies this weekend

1. "Freakier Friday" (PG)

In this one, Anna is about to get married to Manny Jacinto from "The Good Place", but both of their daughters hate the idea.

When the body swap happens, Anna trades with her daughter Heather, and Tess becomes Anna's soon-to-be step-daughter Lily. Once they have control of the adult bodies, they try to break up the wedding by hitting up Anna's ex-boyfriend.

Mark Harmon is Tess's husband and Chad Michael Murray is Anna's ex.

2. "My Mother's Wedding" (R)
Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller, and Emily Beecham play sisters who return home for their widowed mother's third wedding. It's directed by and stars Kristin Scott Thomas as their mom.

"The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a live tour that will feature some of the original stars. Barry Bostwick, Patricia Quinn, and Nell Campbell will do 55 cities in North America. Tim Curry will make a rare appearance at one of them, November 2nd in Anaheim. (Here's a very short edit of "Time Warp".)

The tour begins September 23rd in Alabama. Throughout October, the movie will return to theaters in its newly restored 4K version. It must've been a pass from Susan Sarandon. Meat Loaf died in 2022.

Here are the nearest locations:
09/29 – Denver, CO at Paramount Theatre, 10/26 – Spokane, WA at First Interstate Center For The Arts, 10/28 – Seattle, WA at Paramount Theatre

This sounds like barf city. But maybe not? Heinz and Smoothie King just debuted a KETCHUP SMOOTHIE. And multiple reports say it's actually pretty good.

They announced it after Smoothie King teased it earlier this week with a post that said, "If tomatoes are a fruit . . . is ketchup a smoothie?"

It's not JUST ketchup, because that WOULD be gross. The "Heinz Tomato Ketchup Smoothie" includes strawberries, raspberries, apple juice, açai sorbet and Heinz’s signature ketchup.

A writer for "People" magazine described it as "sweet and tangy," and said they were "impressed with how well the savory ketchup blended" with the other ingredients.

It's available for a limited time at a bunch of Smoothie King locations, but only in six major markets across the U.S. To try one, you have to be in or around Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or New York.

To find one of our many stores nationwide, simply enter your zip code.

What's a sign of intelligence? One person says, "When they encounter 'closed-minded' people, they don't waste time arguing. They listen, nod, then politely end the conversation and walk away. They know there's no common ground, so why waste energy?"

A Danish zoo is facing backlash for asking people to donate their pets, so they can be EATEN by lions and other apex predators. They don't accept cats or dogs. Just rabbits, chickens, guinea pigs, and small horses.
