🎶 A Tribute to Chuck Mangione (1940–2025)

The world lost a true maestro of smooth jazz: Chuck Mangione, who passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Rochester, New York, on July 22, 2025, at the age of 84.

Born Charles Frank Mangione on November 29, 1940, in Rochester, he grew up immersed in music alongside his brother Gap. Together they formed The Jazz Brothers and laid the foundation for a career that would span six decades.

Mangione first gained broader attention as a key figure in Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, honing a lyrical, melodically rich style. His 1977 breakthrough single “Feels So Good” soared to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped introduce smooth jazz to mainstream audiences.

He later won two Grammy Awards: 1977’s “Bellavia” for Best Instrumental Composition, and 1979’s “Children of Sanchez” for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.
Mangione’s music also reached global stages—his compositions featured in the 1976 Montreal Summer Olympics and he performed the closing theme “Give It All You Got” at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics.
In an unexpected but beloved turn, Chuck became a pop culture figure through his recurring appearances as a fictionalized version of himself on King of the Hill, often humorously tied to the enduring refrain of “Feels So Good."
Through it all, Mangione remained beloved for his boundless energy, generosity, and connection with fans—often staying after shows to sign autographs and chat at length.
