Heron – Keeper of Blooming Stillness

The flowers open loudly
colors bursting,
scents rising,
the whole field alive with movement.

But the heron stands at the edge of it all,
quiet as a held breath.

Where petals rush toward the sun,
he remains carved from calm,
a tall figure of silver patience
in a world that is suddenly too bright.

He does not chase the season.
He lets it unfold.
In his stillness, the blossoms find their balance
their wild beauty softened
by the presence of something steady.

To some, he is only a bird waiting for fish.
To others, he is a reminder:

Not everything that blooms
asks you to bloom with it.
Some moments only ask you
to remain grounded
and take in the light slowly.

And when he finally lifts his wings,
gliding over the field of new color,
people say:

“There goes the Keeper of Blooming Stillness
the one who teaches us
that the world can be full,
and we can still move gently.”

It’s been a minute since our last update. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes and are excited to finally share what’s next. We invite you to join us on our newly assigned landbase for a special gathering to welcome a new herd of pesāēhkiwak relatives to our homelands.

This event is a chance to celebrate this addition to our community and the return of our medicines, plants, and other relatives who will come alongside them. It’s also an opportunity for our young people to reconnect with the natural world and the teachings she has to offer, which we believe will build a stronger next generation of land caretakers and stewards.

We can’t wait to see you there!
