The reason typos have gone under your radar is not because you’re stupid, it’s because you’re smart. I am not saying this to make you feel good about your typos, but because there is interesting science behind why we usually don’t catch our own typos when we proofread our works.

In this interview novel, musician and Ohio grape farmer, Slim Chance, has agreed to sit down for a taped, all-night conversation with Denver Post columnist, Steven Michael Barber.

Slim jumps from one uproarious, drug and alcohol infested adventure to another. Sex, drugs, rock and roll, mental illness, addiction, redemption, crime and punishment, evil possession, spirituality, and great beef jerky recipes are just a few of the topics visited by Slim as he negotiates his way from his modest small town South Dakota beginnings to musical stardom. No stones are left unturned in this heartfelt, hilarious eight-hour interview.

“Assume Guilt” a Book Review

We'd like to recognize a wonderful review for our book of the week, Paul Lisnek's Assume Guilt! It was reviewed by Alan Bresloff from Around the Town Chicago.

Here's what Al had to say about Assume Guilt: " I am not a great reader, not having a great deal of time to do so, but I found myself going into the city by train instead of driving so I could continue reading and see where this mystery was going."

For the full review, visit http://www.aroundthetownchicago.com/articles/assume-guilt-a-book-review/

Assume Guilt can be purchased at writtendreams.com or amazon.com in paperback, hardcover, or eBook.

It is not often that I do a book review, but under the circumstances, felt it was the right thing to do. For many years, I have seen Paul Lisnek at the theater, or at a taping of the Broadway In Ch…

The Ultimate Book Case Though eBooks and audiobooks have grown in popularity over the last few years, there's nothing I love more than a good ol' paper book. In fact, I'm quite the collector. A bookshelf is a necessity for someone like me, and for a ton of other people too. For a lot of peop

Our next book of the week is Kaleidoscope by Dallas Hembra! This is another spring release we are extremely excited about.

Here is what Dallas has to say about this poetry collection:

"Kaleidoscope, unlike many poetry chapbooks, is not theme-driven. It is a multi-faceted look through the prism of life’s resplendent observation tower. It explores the mountainous terrains of love and heartache, giggles at the ridiculous, stokes our anger, and acknowledges our fears. Kaleidoscope randomly selects pieces of our puzzles and arranges them in a panoramic lens that shapes humanities’ shared experiences."

Messengers is a YA Fantasy that follows Majest and Aletta Skylark after a rebellious god gifts them with elemental powers for an unknown purpose. When the Skylarks’ mother is slain by an organization waging war against those with supernatural abilities like theirs, the children become reluctant runaways in the danger-riddled Canadian wilderness.

In their escape, they end up entangled in a centuries-old feud between a cursed Victorian boy and his mother, decoding a pint-sized prophet’s cynical forewarnings on an impossible Hudson Bay island, journeying to discover twentieth-century salvages between science and magic, and meeting other Messengers like them. All the while, they are being hunted by their mother’s killers, and demons who often wear the faces of friends.

The first story in our book of the week, Women of Today, is Greta's Grace by the award-winning Virginia McCullough!

Before she began writing novels, Virginia McCullough was a ghostwriter for doctors, therapists, lawyers, professional speakers, and many others, and she produced over 100 nonfiction books for her clients. Her award-winning novels include Amber Light, The Chapels on the Hill, and Island Healing. Asked about the themes of her fiction, she says her stories always come down to hope, healing, and plenty of second chances.

A TIP FOR A SUCCESSFUL BOOK SIGNING: I've been to a lot of writers' workshops and one thing often repeated in those regarding book signings and marketing, STAND UP. When a potential reader comes along, STAND UP. Better yet, STAND in front of your table. Sitting behind your table separates you--distances you from your potential buyer. Think about how you feel/felt approaching someone like a boss or a teacher sitting behind a desk. They are in power and you are submissive. Most everyone has experienced this sense of being the submissive to the point that they will tend to see you as the person on the other side of the desk. I repeat, sitting behind the table DISTANCES you from potential buyers. STANDING also puts you at eye level which makes it easier to MAKE EYE CONTACT. Eye contact gives you the opportunity to engage. A simple “hi” can lead to more dialogue. At the last couple book signings of mine where Brittiany Koren attended, I noticed she approached people with the question, “Are you a reader?” I often ask, “What do you like to read?” I learned from Brittiany to use these questions or any relevant ones you come up with more often. It ENGAGES YOUR READER. And, it’s lot easier to ask that engaging question if you are STANDING.

A beautiful review by Annette from Impressions In Ink.
Happy 4th of July!
“Hello, world. I am Dallas H and I’m an ………?” Guess you will have to read the book for verification. Shaking the Family Tree is a book that morphed from its original intent, which was to be a chapbook of poetry on addiction, into a personal memoir that traces my own personal journey from addiction to recovery. The poetry survived and is interjected where relevant. When I approached Brittiany, she posed a question that I had not anticipated: “Why don’t you share some of your own personal experiences to enable others to understand the disease of addiction?” I mulled this over for a few days, manufacturing what I thought were valid reasons not to put myself out there for all the world to see. But in the end, I began to see this as an opportunity to share my version of what is a growing epidemic in this country. So, in the hope that perhaps others could relate, my story began to write itself. The desire to leave my children and grandchildren something tangible, as well as informational, became the driving force behind the book. I wanted them to be aware of the genetic predisposition and to understand that it is a part of their legacy that demands recognition. Was it painful to write? Of course, it was. I was jettisoned back to a past that myself and other family members had narrowly escaped. But worse than that, I was reminded that every time I saw my grandchildren, tipping a brew on Facebook, that history has a tendency to repeat itself. No matter what one’s drug of choice is, addiction is a family disease. It affects both the victim, family members, and others who through no fault of heir own, have been forced to ride the same elevator down into the abyss of addiction, where they suffer their own unique bruises and pain. Shaking the Family Tree is not a war story, but rather an honest account, minus any embellishments, of my own, and my families journey through the thick and thin of it all. It focuses on the genetic predisposition as well as the effect on family relationships. But most important, it is a story of renewal that offers hope and a way out. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Brittiany for breathing life into a story that deserves to be told.
I've enjoyed working with Brittiany, Publisher of Written Dreams when I was writing my book, Detours, Memoirs of a Railroad Man. She taught me a lot which came in handy during that time.
