Patriot Day (September 11)

Pray for the families that have had so much loss.

What happened on this day? Terrorists hijacked four commercial planes, crashing two into the World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon, and one into a field in Pennsylvania.

When did it become official? Congress designated September 11 as Patriot Day in 2001, following a joint resolution.

How is it observed? Americans are asked to observe a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. EST, the time the first plane hit the World Trade Center. The U.S. flag is also to be flown at half-staff.
