**Ubuntu Christmas: A Night of Culture, Celebration & Community Honors!**
On December 13, I had the joy of attending Ubuntu Christmas, a dazzling celebration and fundraiser hosted by Total Gospel Outreach Ministry and Art Inqola Entertainment at JustAbs Event Center in Centennial, Colorado.

The evening was filled with soulful caroling, electrifying dance performances, and the kind of warmth that only Ubuntu can inspire; the type of warmth that declares, “I am because we are.”
Now, to give you the highlight. The Ubuntu Honors Award Ceremony was where changemakers, creatives, faith leaders, and community advocates were recognized for their impact. I’m deeply humbled to share that I received the Ubuntu Cultural Preservation & Innovation Award for my work in preserving African heritage through storytelling and uplifting others through media and advocacy. I appreciate it.

To be honored alongside so many incredible African and African American leaders was a moment I’ll always remember. The award reminds me that our stories matter, and when we tell them with heart, we build bridges that last.

A heartfelt salute to Nomvula Maneli, founder & creative director of Art Inqola, and Rev. Abigail Tandoh-Norman, lead pastor of Total Gospel Outreach Ministry, for curating such a powerful evening of unity, joy, and purpose. Although Rev. Tandoh-Norman was joyfully engaged elsewhere, her presence was beautifully upheld through the representation of her husband, Ebenezer Norman, ensuring the spirit of her leadership was felt throughout the celebration.

Let’s keep the spirit of Ubuntu alive through music, faith, and community.

**10 Years of African Elegance in Denver!**
This past Saturday, I had the absolute pleasure of attending the 10th Anniversary of the African Fashion Show Denver, and what a celebration it was! Held at the vibrant Village Exchange Center, the runway came alive with bold colors, regal fabrics, and fierce designs from Denver’s finest African fashion vendors. One after another, models strutted with pride, showcasing the creativity and heritage woven into every stitch.

But the magic wasn’t just on the runway. I was deeply moved by the warm reunions—familiar faces I hadn’t seen in ages, new friends with radiant energy, and a community that continues to uplift and inspire.

A huge shoutout to Edith Muyinda, founder of Byasima Couture and the visionary behind this iconic show. For 10 years, she’s championed African fashion and culture in Colorado—and this milestone proves her impact is only growing.

If you missed it, don’t worry, we’ll be sharing highlights and designer spotlights. Hold up, the pics that I've posted here are just afterthought photos, not the real thing.
So stay tuned and stay stylish!

Telehealth Clinic: A New Dawn for Community Healthcare*

On November 29th, 2025, Aurora witnessed something truly special—the launch of Telesprings Telehealth Clinic on Telesprings.com, a platform designed to bring healthcare closer to home, right at our fingertips. Hosted at the Hyatt House Hotel, the event was more than a formal unveiling; it felt like a family gathering, a community celebration, and a bold step into the future of healthcare. Friends, it was the day healthcare got a major upgrade right here in Aurora.

The vision behind Telesprings is to make healthcare accessible, affordable, and convenient for everyone, especially underserved populations. Through 24/7 access to licensed providers, HIPAA-compliant video consultations, prescription services, lab orders, and chronic disease management, the platform promises to eliminate barriers that often keep people from getting the care they need.

*A Family Affair, Rooted in Faith and Community*
The evening began with heartfelt prayers from Mr. Tunde Ajala, who traveled all the way from Nigeria to support his younger brother, Dr. Adesoji Ajala, the driving force behind Telesprings. His prayer for wisdom and excellence set the tone: this was not just about technology, but about service, compassion, and community upliftment. That's a foundation of faith and excellence we can all get behind!

Opeyemi Ajala followed with a warm introduction, capturing the essence of the clinic in one phrase: “healthcare meets convenience.” That sentiment resonated deeply with attendees, many of whom know the struggles of long waits, transportation challenges, and the high costs of traditional care.

*Voices of Inspiration*
The keynote address by Dr. Remi Ladoye was an absolute masterclass in the why of telehealth. She painted a vivid picture of what telehealth means for everyday people: saving time, cutting costs, easing mobility issues, and offering dignity and peace of mind to patients, especially seniors, who prefer care from the comfort of home. Forget battling traffic, finding parking, or taking half a day off work for a simple check-up. Dr. Ladoye highlighted the core advantages that will resonate most with our families.
Then came the highlight: Dr. Adesoji Ajala’s live demo of the Telesprings platform. With clarity and passion, he showed how patients can log in, consult with providers, manage chronic conditions, and even receive prescriptions directly at their local pharmacy. Not only did he walk us through a step-by-step demo of the patient portal (which is surprisingly user-friendly!), he also laid out the clinic's mission. His simple yet powerful message was, ‘healthcare should meet people where they are.’

According to Dr. Ajala, the clinic aims to improve access to healthcare for underserved populations, provide essential services like virtual primary care, chronic care management, and urgent health services, and support community wellness through accessible, patient-centered virtual care.

A quick look at their website reveals the comprehensive nature of their offering, which includes everything from Weight Loss and Minor Illnesses to specialized care for Men's Health, Women's Health, and even a focus on the "whole person" with Mental Well-being and Spiritual Care. They truly are offering a full spectrum of health support, right from your living room!

*A Launch Blessed with Hope*
The final, deeply moving moment of the launch came from Bishop Israel Ade-Ajala, the head shepherd of Kingdom Connection Christian Center. Bishop Ade-Ajala, who was there to officially launch the platform, spoke with heartfelt pride about the hard work and dedication poured into this project. He reminded us that “nothing grows until it’s born.” His words carried both spiritual weight and practical truth. Telesprings.com's launch is the birth of something that will grow to serve countless families in Aurora and beyond. Following the official launch and a prayer for continued growth, we raised a toast to the incredible team, which included Rev. Dr. Adeola Ade-Ajala and Dr. Remi Ladoye.

*Bridging the Gap for Our Community*
For our community, Telesprings is a lifeline. Imagine a single mother who can’t take time off work, an elder who struggles with transportation, or a newcomer navigating the healthcare system for the first time. With secure video calls, symptom analysis, and round-the-clock access to providers, Telesprings ensures that no one is left behind.

Afrik Digest celebrates this milestone not just as a technological achievement but as a community-centered innovation. It’s about equity, dignity, and the belief that healthcare is a right, not a privilege.

On that night in Aurora, we witnessed the birth of hope, connection, and a healthier tomorrow. Telesprings Telehealth Clinic is officially open for virtual doors, bringing a unique blend of high-tech convenience and compassionate, whole-person care right to the heart of our community.

’s Fresh Start for Homeownership: A Community Path to Stability*

By Afrik Digest
For so many families in Aurora, the dream of owning a home has felt just out of reach. The biggest hurdle isn’t always finding the right house; it’s coming up with the down payment. That upfront cost has kept hardworking parents, young professionals, and even longtime residents from crossing the threshold into homeownership.
Now, Aurora is offering a fresh start. The city has launched the Aurora Down Payment Assistance Program, a new initiative backed by Colorado’s voter-approved Proposition 123, to help more residents finally step into homes of their own.

What makes this program special is its accessibility. Qualifying buyers can receive between 4% and 10% of the purchase price toward their down payment. The assistance comes as a “silent second loan,” meaning families don’t have to worry about monthly payments. Instead, repayment only happens when the home is sold, refinanced, or the primary mortgage is paid off. For many, that’s the difference between continuing to rent and finally building equity in a place they can call home.

Can Apply?
The program is open to households earning up to 120% of the area median income—that’s as much as $168,120 for a family of four in Aurora’s three counties. This wide eligibility means the program isn’t just for a select few; it’s designed to reach the working families who keep Aurora moving forward, from nurses and teachers to small business owners and community advocates.

City leaders say the program is about more than numbers. “We are proud to launch the Down Payment Assistance Program to make homeownership more achievable for the families and individuals who call Aurora home,” said Sarah Pulliam, Aurora’s housing and community development manager.

Behind the scenes, the program is powered by a $720,000 grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, drawn from a revolving loan fund created by Proposition 123. Voters approved the measure in 2022 to dedicate a portion of state sales tax revenues to housing initiatives across Colorado. For Aurora, that means real dollars invested in real families, ensuring that the city’s diverse communities—including many from immigrant and diaspora backgrounds—have a fair shot at stability and dignity through homeownership.

residents, the process is straightforward. Applications and information are available by emailing [email protected], calling 303-739-7900, or visiting AuroraGov.org/residents/home_improvement/down_payment_assistance. A full list of Aurora’s housing programs can also be found at AuroraGov.org/Housing.

At its heart, this program is about equity. It’s about recognizing that families who already contribute so much, working hard, paying taxes, raising children, and building community, deserve the chance to put down roots. For Aurora’s African and Black diaspora communities, and for immigrants who have long sought stability, this initiative is more than financial assistance. It’s an invitation to belong, to invest, and to thrive.

Fresh Start Week: A Chance to Begin Again*

For many in our community, the weight of an old warrant can feel like a shadow that never goes away. It lingers, making it harder to move forward, harder to find stability, and harder to fully participate in the life of the city we call home. This December, Aurora is offering something rare and powerful: a chance to step out from under that shadow.

Aurora Municipal Court, working hand in hand with the Aurora Public Defender’s Office, has launched Fresh Start Week, a program that allows residents with certain non-violent warrants to clear them without the fear of arrest. It’s a simple but transformative idea: show up, meet with a public defender, stand before a judge, and walk away with your warrant cancelled and your case reset. For many, that means the opportunity to breathe easier, to focus on family, work, and community without the constant worry of being picked up for something that could have been resolved years ago.

Start Week runs on December 8, 9, 11, and 12, with walk-in court sessions in the afternoons. Those who check in by 1 p.m. will have their cases added to the docket, and interpreters will be available to make sure language is never a barrier. For those who cannot make it to the courthouse, there’s even a remote option through the Aurora Mental Health and Recovery homeless services drop-in center on Elmira Street, available on December 8, 9, and 11.

*Eligibility and Requirements*
Not everyone qualifies. Cases involving domestic violence, assault, battery, reckless endangerment, and crimes involving weapons are excluded, but for those with warrants tied to traffic, zoning, animal control, or select criminal matters, this program is a lifeline. It’s a chance to resolve lingering issues without punishment, to reset the clock, and to reclaim dignity.

City leaders say the initiative is about more than clearing dockets. It’s about giving people the chance to move forward, reducing taxpayer costs, and allowing law enforcement to focus on violent crimes that truly endanger the community. But for the individuals who walk into Division 6 of the Aurora Municipal Court, it’s about something deeply personal: the chance to start fresh.

*Registration and Information*
Pre-registration is encouraged but not required, and residents can check if they have an active warrant by visiting court.auroragov.org/warrant. To register or ask about eligibility, community members can email [email protected], call 303-739-6555, or visit the Aurora Public Defender’s Office in person.

Fresh Start Week is a reminder that second chances matter. In Aurora, the city is saying to its residents: we see you, we value you, and we want you to have the opportunity to move forward. For many families, that message could make all the difference.
