Traffic stop leads to the capture, extradition and 25 year sentence for New York murder suspect.
If you've been following us for a very long time, you may remember in 2019, a traffic stop that Major Dwight Simmons made. The traffic stop was on I-70 and for a vehicle that was traveling 10 mph under the speed limit in the passing lane. Major Simmons identified the driver and after an investigation, learned that he was wanted out of New York for murder. The driver was arrested, lodged in our county Jail and then extradited back to New York.
6 years later, Major Simmons and Detective Matt Biggs were flown to New York to testify in the case. The suspect, Sheng Mao Chen, was found guilty of 1st degree manslaughter for stabbing the victim 35 times.
This ☝️. This right here is why we call traffic stops, the bread and butter of Law Enforcement. So many crimes are solved because of this. So many criminals are brought to justice...... Because of this!! It's good old fashioned Police work. It's seasoned Veteran Law Enforcement Officers doing what they do best......... Keeping the public safe.
As always; Major Simmons, Detective Biggs and the rest of the veteran Deputies are out there, Every! Single! Day!! Using their decades of experience to locate and apprehend criminals. Investigating crimes. Stopping cars. Maintaining public safety and civility. They are also teaching the young Officers the skill sets needed to be our future Law Enforcement professionals.
As always, have a great day and be safe Putnam County.
