This is the original Cooperative Food Store in the historic Village of Greendale, which first opened its doors on September 25, 1938, managed by Douglas McClure.

Because Greendale was built as a greenbelt planned community during the Great Depression, this store was about so much more than just picking up groceries. It was designed to foster a true neighbor-helping-neighbor spirit while ensuring the village's very first families had reliable access to fresh food and essentials.
