📸 Flock Cameras in Greendale

Greendale has a number of Flock safety cameras within the Village limits. Communities across the country are pushing back against AI-powered Flock Safety license plate reader cameras, raising concerns about privacy, data sharing, and government surveillance.

In Milwaukee, two police officers are under investigation for misuse of the city’s Flock system. Other cities, such as Boulder, Colorado, and Evanston, Illinois, have also faced controversies, with some communities removing the cameras or launching legal challenges. In Dayton, Ohio city officials have resorted using garbage bags to cover cameras.

Critics question who accesses the data, how long it is stored, and what protections exist against misuse.

Flock Safety says its technology helps solve crimes and recover stolen vehicles. The company argues that removing cameras increases crime and maintains its data-sharing complies with federal law. While supporters view the cameras as a vital law enforcement tool, opponents see them as an invasive surveillance network tracking everyday citizens.
