THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM EASTERN OHIO
INTO WESTERN NEW YORK...
..SUMMARY...
Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across portions
of the central Plains to the Ohio Valley on Wednesday. A more
organized severe weather threat is expected from eastern Ohio to
western New York.
..Synopsis...
A belt of enhanced mid-level flow will move through the broad
upper-level trough across Ontario, overspreading the Great Lakes
into Upstate New York and Quebec. A cold front will extend from a
deep surface low across northern Ontario south through the Upper
Midwest and into the central High Plains. Isolated to widely
scattered thunderstorm activity is expected near the surface trough
across the Ohio Valley into the Northeast and along the front from
the Midwest to the central High Plains.
..Eastern Ohio into western New York...
Across the eastern Ohio Valley into portions of the Northeast,
strengthening mid-level flow will overspread the region with
thunderstorms developing along the cold front and pre-frontal
surface trough. Upper 60s to 70s dew points and filtered daytime
heating will yield moderate instability amid ample deep layer shear
for organization. Mode will likely be a mix of multi-cell clusters
and transient supercells, with potential for damaging wind.
Generally weak lapse rate profiles and quick mode transition to
clusters/linear segments should limit hail and tornado potential.
Nonetheless, as the low-level jet increases into the afternoon and
clockwise curvature increases in hodographs a tornado may be
possible.
..Ohio Valley to the Midwest and the central Plains...
Morning convection will be likely across much of the
Midwest/Mid-Missouri Valley into the northwestern Ohio Valley.
Remnant shower activity/cloud cover will likely limit severe
potential with northern extent. Nonetheless, isolated to widely
scattered thunderstorm activity is expected to develop by the
afternoon along the front and remnant outflow from the eastern Ohio
Valley through portions of the Midwest and into the central Plains.
Flow will be fairly weak across the central Plains, with generally a
marginal damaging wind threat with multi-cell clusters as daytime
heating steepens low-level lapse rates amid deeply mixed profiles.
Slightly better flow aloft may favor a more focused cluster across
the Mid-Mississippi Valley into western Kentucky/Tennessee.

Wednesday September 9th, 2026.

THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM EASTERN OHIO
INTO WESTERN NEW YORK...
..SUMMARY...
Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across portions
of the central Plains to the Ohio Valley on Wednesday. A more
organized severe weather threat is expected from eastern Ohio to
western New York.
..Eastern Ohio into western New York...
A mid-level trough will move from the Upper Midwest to the Northeast
on Wednesday with moderate mid-level flow expanding along the
southern periphery of this trough. A strong surface low associated
with this trough will move across northern Ontario with a cold front
extending into the Midwest. Ahead of this front, low 70s dewpoints
are forecast to advect northward across Ohio, Pennsylvania, and
western New York. Mid-level lapse rates will be relatively weak, but
the moist environment will support moderate instability amid
moderate effective shear. A line of storms is forecast to develop
along the front from central Ohio into western New York. This
environment should support damaging winds. Some tornado threat may
exist as the low-level flow strengthens during the afternoon with
clockwise curved low-level hodographs. However, a mostly linear
storm mode should limit the overall tornado threat.
..Ohio Valley to the central Plains...
Moderate instability is forecast to develop from the central Plains
to the Ohio Valley. Across the plains, instability will be driven by
a hot, deeply mixed environment while instability farther east will
be driven by 70s dewpoints. Within this entire zone, mid-level flow
is expected to remain quite weak which will limit storm
organization. Water-loaded downbursts farther east and drier
microbursts in the mixed environment farther west will be the
primary hazard within the Marginal Risk. A zone of greater
instability from eastern Missouri into western Indiana could support
an isolated hail threat, particularly if some of this greater
instability can spread beneath stronger mid-level flow. However,
morning convection/cloudcover may be present where this most
favorable environment could develop.

A Statement from Rylan Hackworth, CEO, Following the Passing of County Music Legend Dolly Parton:

Today, we lost one of the greatest voices to ever grace country music. Dolly Parton was more than an icon. She was a storyteller, a trailblazer, and a woman whose heart was as powerful as her voice. Her passing at the age of 80 has left a silence that will be felt across generations, and l am deeply saddened to learn this news.

Dolly shaped the soundtrack of so many lives. She inspired young artists, lifted communities, and reminded all of us that kindness and creativity are strengths worth carrying proudly. In my opinion, she was one of the greatest female country music artists to ever walk this earth. Her legacy is woven into the fabric of American music, and her influence will continue to shine long after today.

As we reflect on her life, I'm reminded of something she once said:
"If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain."

Today is one of those rainy days. But the rainbow she left behind is bright, lasting, and full of hope.

May she rest in peace. May her music live on. And may we continue to honor the joy, resilience, and love she shared with the world.
