As parents and children shop for the upcoming school year, it’s important to make smart choices when it comes to backpacks too! A fully packed backpack should weigh no more than 10% of your child's body weight. It should also sit 2 inches below their shoulders and hang no more than 4 inches below their hips. Heavier backpacks will cause students to bend forward to support the weight on the back rather than the shoulders. It can also affect their posture and cause fatigue, pain in the neck and shoulders, and increase their risk of musculoskeletal injury!
