Old-Fashioned Spaghetti
Ingredients:
For the Meat Sauce:
β’ 1 lb ground beef
β’ 1 small onion, diced
β’ Β½ cup green bell peppers, diced
β’ 3 cloves garlic, minced
β’ 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
β’ 1 small can (6 oz) tomato paste
β’ 1 tsp dried oregano
β’ 1 tsp dried basil
β’ 1 tsp sugar
β’ Β½ tsp salt
β’ ΒΌ tsp black pepper
β’ ΒΌ cup water
For the Spaghetti:
β’ 12 oz spaghetti (or your favorite pasta)
β’ Salt (for boiling water)
For Garnish:
β’ Grated Parmesan cheese
β’ Chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions:
1. Cook the Beef:
β’ In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
β’ Drain any excess grease.
2. SautΓ© the Vegetables:
β’ Add the diced onion, green bell peppers, and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef.
β’ SautΓ© for 3-4 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened and fragrant.
3. Make the Sauce:
β’ Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, water, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper.
β’ Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4. Cook the Spaghetti:
β’ While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
β’ Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente.
β’ Drain and set aside.
5. Combine and Serve:
β’ Toss the cooked spaghetti with the meat sauce until fully coated.
β’ Serve immediately, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley, if desired.
