🚨 STOP believing these tax myths! They could be costing you 💰 every year!

🔹 Here are 5 of the biggest tax myths that many people STILL believe (but aren’t true!):

❌ Myth #1: "I don’t have to file taxes if I didn’t make a lot of money."
✅ Truth: Even if you made little income, you may still be required to file. Plus, you could be leaving refunds or credits on the table!

❌ Myth #2: "I don’t need to report cash income."
✅ Truth: The IRS considers ALL income taxable—including cash, Venmo, and PayPal payments. Not reporting it could lead to penalties.

❌ Myth #3: "Side hustles don’t count as taxable income."
✅ Truth: Any money you earn outside of a traditional job (gig work, freelancing, small businesses) is taxable. But, you can write off business expenses to reduce your tax bill!

❌ Myth #4: "Filing taxes is only important in April."
✅ Truth: Tax planning is a YEAR-ROUND process! The smartest people take advantage of tax-saving strategies before the year ends.

❌ Myth #5: "I can claim anything I want as a business deduction."
✅ Truth: The IRS allows deductions, but they must be ordinary and necessary for your business. (No, your personal Netflix subscription doesn’t count 😆).

Attention Small Business Owners and Entrepreneurs!

Did you know that hiring independent contractors can help reduce your tax liability? Payments made to contractors are considered deductible business expenses, allowing you to lower your taxable income. This is a win-win because independent contractors can also reduce their own tax liability by writing off business-related expenses.

If you pay a contractor $600 or more in a year, don’t forget to issue Form 1099-NEC—this keeps you compliant with IRS requirements and lets you maximize those deductions.

Let’s make tax season work for you! If you’d like to learn more about how this strategy can benefit your business and independent contractors, I’m here to help.

What is the The Path Act?

A law created for those who are claiming CTC/EITC.

If you file before February 15, you're owed a tax refund and you're claiming either the ACTC or EITC, your entire refund will be withheld until at least the February 15 deadline.

This delay allows the IRS time to match information from individual tax returns with information on the W-2 forms from employers, which are sent to the IRS by January 31, as a way of preventing identify theft and fraud.
