This government, led by His Excellency Joseph Nyumah Boakai, Sr., through the Ministry of Health, has not only improved healthcare service delivery, increased the health workforce, and strengthened the supply chain for essential medicines, It has also restored trust, rekindled hope, and reignited confidence and pride in a system found dilapidated and stuporous.
When we assumed office just over a year and a half ago, we inherited a crippled, dysfunctional healthcare system with drug stock levels barely at ten percent (10%), and most essential medicines unavailable.
Today, that has changed.
We are actively procuring and replenishing medical stock, distributing drugs and medical supplies to the last mile in all 15 counties, and have completely reversed the situation nationwide. Our current drug stock levels have risen from the meager ten percent (10%) we inherited to an impressive ninety-five percent (95%).
The government remains committed to ensuring that essential medicines, the lifeblood of our clinics, health centers, and hospitals reach every part of Liberia, breathing new life into a system that was once comatose.
In addition, we are installing state-of-the-art laboratory equipments, X-ray machines, and anesthesia machines across country referral hospitals reviving a system that had been callously neglected and left in disrepair. Today, laboratories across the nation are functional and better equipped to serve our people.
We are also investing in health infrastructure by building new facilities, including a drug-abuse rehabilitation institution and a modern referral diagnostic center in central Liberia. At the same time, we are rehabilitating existing health facilities and improving sanitation in previously neglected areas, transforming unhygienic environments into clean, safe, and dignified spaces for both patients and health workers.
Let me, therefore, take this opportunity to thank our dynamic health workers and dedicated partners across the country. Your unwavering commitment, resilience, and service are the heartbeat of this transformation. Together, we are building a healthier Liberia.
Yours in Service,
Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto
Ministry of Health
