Here’s a way you can directly help Jamaicans with families affected by the hurricane. Hackett’s Orchard donates 300 # of apples to the Hardwick Area Food Pantry each year. They have asked for our help spreading this message.

EDIT: We would like to get all donations in by early next week, as we have confirmation that they can ship the tote by Friday next week!

Like many orchards and farms in Vermont, our Jamaican pickers are still here — while their families back home are bracing for Hurricane Melissa. 💔

They are a big reason that we can help feed our communities and now it’s our turn to help them.

💚 We’re collecting donations to support them and their families in Jamaica. Help us fill this tote!

➡️ How to Help: (drop off at Hacketts)
Non-Perishable Food Items: Rice, Cooking Oil, Canned Kidney Beans, Can Corn and Green Beans, Tuna, Sardines, Vienna Sausage, Mac N Cheese, Ketchup, Pasta, Dried Fruit, Dove Deodorant, Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash, toothpaste (Crest), tooth brushes, and Dawn Dish Soap.

Let’s show our Jamaican families that Vermont stands with them. 🌎💪

If you live in Hardwick, come talk with us this Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Jeudevine Memorial Library’s new Parker Ladd Community Room downstairs.

We’d like to hear from you about what’s important to you about The The Hardwick Gazette, what you like, what you don’t and what you’d like to see more of, less of, not at all, or some of that's not there now.

We’ll be sharing some of how we do what we do. There will be snacks and beverages. This is not a fundraiser, but an open conversation about what The Gazette means to you.

"Censorship is so 1984" is the theme of this year's Banned Books Week. You may have read our piece in the Hardwick Gazette this week, talking about our belief in the freedom to read. Writing a letter to the editor is one great way to exercise and express support for the freedom of speech. This week, we'll share more resources and action ideas as we celebrate Banned Books Week with book lovers across America.
