WDFC-FM is the 24/7 non commercial educational broadcast station of Christ United Methodist Church serving Greensboro, Guilford County and surrounding areas. Operating on 101.7 MHz, Christ Church Radio received a license from the FCC and went on the air full time March 15, 2015 with unique and variety programming including Classical with some famous sacred works mixed in and Smooth Jazz music along with Standard Jazz and Beach Music plus a host of other programs. WDFC also streams worldwide at christgreensboro.org/live. Ask Alexa or Google Home to “play WDFC.” The station is also available on Tune In, Siri and other platforms. We are Radio That’s Different! It won’t take long to realize that after you give us a try. Classical is programmed on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, We then switch to Smooth and Standard Jazz on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Beach Music on Saturday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. We also have just added a new program on Saturday afternoon from noon until 5 pm. It is called the Saturday Afternoon Experiment where 50s, 60s, 70s music is featured and will bring back many memories. It will also contain some music from this period that didn’t make it on the charts as well as some beach music. A new show, Charting In The USA has been added at 2:00 pm on Saturday that plays the top 30 hits from the current week in a selected year from the 50s to 80s. Special weekly programs include With Heart & Voice, Sing for Joy, Day 1, Music and the Spoken Word featuring the world famous Tabernacle Choir, On the Beach with Charlie Brown, Between the Keys, Jazz With Gil, Picture Perfect, Cool Jazz Weekly, Jack Elwoods’s Memories in Melodies, The Lost Chord, Lyric Stage, The People’s Pharmacy, Animal Radio, Music That Andee Loves featuring Folk Music and Simply Timeless. Our traditional morning service is broadcast live each week at 11 am on Sunday as well as other special live broadcasts of various programs during the year. Beginning in mid November each year, we switch to all Christmas music that continues through the 12 days of Christmas ending on January 5. You will hear Christmas music that you may never have heard before along with the standards. Our playlist is huge. WDFC began its 6th year of 24 hour continuous operation in March 202o and is the first classical music station in Greensboro and Guilford County since the 1960s when WMDE-FM 98.7 was on the air. Along with broadcasting concerts and events for the Christ Church Music Department that features our numerous choirs, bell choirs and the world renowned Fisk Pipe Organ, the station actively supports and is supported by the Greensboro Symphony, Bel-Canto, Industries of the Blind, Music for a Great Space, Greensboro Choral Society and other non profit organizations as well as listeners. Christ Church Radio is affiliated with the Classical Network and works with FOX8 News - WGHP TV in High Point. WDFC serves as a hands-on school for our total volunteer staff who are students of various ages learning how to operate and run a broadcast station and prepare for possible positions in the broadcast industry. Our students learn production, engineering, writing, programming, announcing and all other areas of broadcasting.
