Justice4Ariel On Nov 23, 2024, Ariel’s life changed because someone decided to drive drunk. Her injuries are severe. (full name removed for post) part.

This was a business page that is no longer in use and was modified to keep everyone updated on her condition and progression of the case. This is a letter that I wrote the judge for the bond hearing. This will provide some detail to the terrifying night of November 23, 2024. On Saturday, November 23, 2024, I said goodbye to my 17-year-old daughter as I left for work at Greenville Memorial Hospital

as an ER nurse. She was doing her nails and planning to go to a friend’s house to watch Christmas movies and drink hot chocolate. I received a call at 2335 from her friend who was clearly shaken on the phone. She said Ariel was hit by a drunk driver, her dad was with her, and EMS was on the way. Mattie is a classmate and close friend of Ariel’s who summoned up a great amount of strength to keep me updated on Ariel’s state of consciousness and when she left the scene. I clocked out and waited by the ER bay until my heart was brought in on a stretcher as a trauma from a selfish act on S.J. Words cannot explain what it was like watching your child be worked up as a trauma. I will list her injuries so you can get an idea of the severity of her injuries which is why I am unable to be there today. Injuries include;
Her right and left femurs are broken
Left hip broken
Right and left arms broken
5 broken ribs
A pneumothorax which is where the lung collapses which later became a hemothorax because it started to collect blood. This ended up needing a chest tube. A liver laceration which required her to go to the operating room to evaluate the extent of the injury, for which she still has a JP drain placed for the collection of fluid and blood. In total, she has had 5 surgeries, multiple invasive procedures, and countless radiology scans. Ariel will still need more during her ICU course. On top of everything else, Ariel was diagnosed with diffuse axonal injury which is a severe traumatic brain injury that causes shearing or tearing of the brain’s nerve fibers, as well as a fat embolism in her brain that is caused by the multiple breaks to her body. Unfortunately, we won’t know her long term prognosis for up to two years from now. My daughter’s broken bones will heal, however her brain may not. She is unresponsive and on a ventilator to keep her breathing due to the severity of her injuries. Today, she is going back to the OR for a tracheostomy and a feeding tube placement. I plead with you not to allow this woman to be released and potentially end another child’s life. She has three children of her own and still made the decision to get behind the wheel not knowing who’s life she would endanger. My daughter is a senior and is dual enrolled in a mechatronics program. She is one of the smartest and kind people that I know. Her infectious laugh and bubbly personality may never return. Her bright future was ripped from her in a split second. My worst nightmare happened that night and that may have been the last time I ever heard her tell me she loved me. Thank you,
Tabitha

After Ariel had her PEG tube and tracheostomy placed, her PEG became displaced, and her abdomen was full of tube feeds and medications. She was rushed to emergency surgery where they had to do an open abdominal surgery and wash her out. She became septic and it was another terrifying event to this nightmare. She continued to have fevers and several infections. It felt like she kept meeting hurdles to her healing. As of 01/03/25, which is the date I am adding this information she is healing. She is truly a MIRACLE and GIFT from God. Over the past week in a half, she has progressed in an amazing and awing way. Our God is AWESOME and He is ABLE to heal! We are on track to go to rehab at Craig Hospital in Colorado on Jan. 6th provided we do not have any additional setbacks.

Today is the anniversary of the 3rd worst day of my life to date.
We knew something was wrong Ariel was tanking but we could not identify what was happening. She was sent for a stat ct that showed her peg tube had become displaced. They took her for emergency surgery where they removed 4 liters of tube feed, meds, and fluid from her abdominal cavity. They had to open her up and wash her out with 12 liters of antibiotic fluid. She was in septic shock.
This wound still opens up from time to time in very small places. It’s an annoyance for Ariel.
But God is still healing her! He has brought her so far in recovery ❤️‍🩹
I am Thankful that He gave my girl an earthly healing and is still with me. 💕

This day a year ago was one of the WORST! The day I was told Ariel had a brain injury and all we could do is provide supportive care. I literally thought I was going to die! My heart was broken 💔 I did not want to live if she did not live! When we went to Craig hospital they viewed her scans and believe her brain injury is from a combination of DAI and fat embolism, both could have left Ariel in a coma for the rest of her life.

BUT GOD decided differently and showed up! It was His timing and not ours. Jesus is still healing Ariel. Her bones are still healing and she may have a hobble but she is HERE and living life! Her brain healing needs continued prayers. She is a different person than before the accident. I would love to get a little more of the old her back but I will be FOREVER Thankful to God for all he has done.
Sitting in that hospital room a year ago, I would have never thought we would be waking up to head out for some shopping. 💕It is one of Ariel’s favorite pass time these days 🤦🏻‍♀️

Happy Monday morning! I will be sharing some of my first posts that I made after the accident, before creating this page.
If I know anything from this experience… I know I am meant to share Ariel’s story.

Awake at 3am. I am often awake at this time thinking about things. This was THE CALL that rocked my world. I will say it was a terrifying call but it was also a call that gave me hope. Mattie said, Ariel was in a car accident. I asked if she was ok and talking? She said, yes my dad is with her and she is talking, EMS is on the way. I waited for her arrival not knowing what the future held.

Ariel can’t comprehend how Mattie and her family stepped in and made such a huge difference in this situation but I do! I am forever grateful to them and God!

Today will be a hard day for me. Ariel is away from home with her boyfriend living life.

I also want to recognize our unsung hero Leslie that recorded Stephanie’s erratic drunk driving and was on a call with 911 when the impact happened. There will never be enough Thank you(s) to be given and it’s a debt that I can’t repay. Leslie was the 1st person to try to calm Ariel after impact. Issac, Mattie’s dad pried the door off the car to get to my girl and try to keep her calm. I will be FOREVER grateful to Leslie and Issac 💕

Please keep me in your prayers today. Thank you for your continued prayers 💗

I’m up late because Ariel wanted to do my nails 💕 I also want to absorb every minute I can with her. It’s always been a rare treat for her to do my nails (like once a year) but lately she has chosen to pamper me by doing my nails. Tonight I told her to decide but I want something fall like or something for Thanksgiving. She nailed it! She also had her favorite one eyed visitor 🤗 Lottie came for loves, playtime, and inspection 🧐

I would normally have all of my Christmas decorations up by now. This year I am extra tired and I am putting it up slow. Family and friends rushed to help me put everything away last year before we left for Colorado 🙌🏼💗I am taking my time finding what I want and rearranging. I can’t put everything out with this crazy one eyed kitten that has claimed Ariel as her human. This kitten has been claimed by Lucy and Ariel now, so I guess I am stuck with her 😉I am 100% sure this kitten also has some sort of head trauma and/or TBI. She is so crazy and hilarious. She has brought us joy! However, someone has been jelly and thinks she is helping. 🙄🌲

Ariel was Ariel the little mermaid for Halloween. 🧜🏾‍♀️

We have lots to be thankful for… a close friend of mine received a kidney this week. Her and donor are home and doing Great! Please keep them in your prayers 💚

I had a birthday 🎉 Ariel forgot my birthday which was not unexpected. She forgets a lot with her TBI. She was emotional and apologetic when I reminded her. I consider this huge progress in her healing. She has mostly been very flat. 💕
We spent a few hours in Helen, Ga yesterday to celebrate. This has been a bit of a birthday tradition for a while. There is a fried cheese place there that I love. We hit some of our favorite stores and headed home.
Ariel continues to ramp up for Christmas. She keeps buying pink Christmas stuff. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣💗🎄
