Justice4Ariel On Nov 23, 2024, Ariel’s life changed because someone decided to drive drunk. Her injuries are severe. (full name removed for post) part.

This was a business page that is no longer in use and was modified to keep everyone updated on her condition and progression of the case. This is a letter that I wrote the judge for the bond hearing. This will provide some detail to the terrifying night of November 23, 2024. On Saturday, November 23, 2024, I said goodbye to my 17-year-old daughter as I left for work at Greenville Memorial Hospital

as an ER nurse. She was doing her nails and planning to go to a friend’s house to watch Christmas movies and drink hot chocolate. I received a call at 2335 from her friend who was clearly shaken on the phone. She said Ariel was hit by a drunk driver, her dad was with her, and EMS was on the way. Mattie is a classmate and close friend of Ariel’s who summoned up a great amount of strength to keep me updated on Ariel’s state of consciousness and when she left the scene. I clocked out and waited by the ER bay until my heart was brought in on a stretcher as a trauma from a selfish act on S.J. Words cannot explain what it was like watching your child be worked up as a trauma. I will list her injuries so you can get an idea of the severity of her injuries which is why I am unable to be there today. Injuries include;
Her right and left femurs are broken
Left hip broken
Right and left arms broken
5 broken ribs
A pneumothorax which is where the lung collapses which later became a hemothorax because it started to collect blood. This ended up needing a chest tube. A liver laceration which required her to go to the operating room to evaluate the extent of the injury, for which she still has a JP drain placed for the collection of fluid and blood. In total, she has had 5 surgeries, multiple invasive procedures, and countless radiology scans. Ariel will still need more during her ICU course. On top of everything else, Ariel was diagnosed with diffuse axonal injury which is a severe traumatic brain injury that causes shearing or tearing of the brain’s nerve fibers, as well as a fat embolism in her brain that is caused by the multiple breaks to her body. Unfortunately, we won’t know her long term prognosis for up to two years from now. My daughter’s broken bones will heal, however her brain may not. She is unresponsive and on a ventilator to keep her breathing due to the severity of her injuries. Today, she is going back to the OR for a tracheostomy and a feeding tube placement. I plead with you not to allow this woman to be released and potentially end another child’s life. She has three children of her own and still made the decision to get behind the wheel not knowing who’s life she would endanger. My daughter is a senior and is dual enrolled in a mechatronics program. She is one of the smartest and kind people that I know. Her infectious laugh and bubbly personality may never return. Her bright future was ripped from her in a split second. My worst nightmare happened that night and that may have been the last time I ever heard her tell me she loved me. Thank you,
Tabitha

After Ariel had her PEG tube and tracheostomy placed, her PEG became displaced, and her abdomen was full of tube feeds and medications. She was rushed to emergency surgery where they had to do an open abdominal surgery and wash her out. She became septic and it was another terrifying event to this nightmare. She continued to have fevers and several infections. It felt like she kept meeting hurdles to her healing. As of 01/03/25, which is the date I am adding this information she is healing. She is truly a MIRACLE and GIFT from God. Over the past week in a half, she has progressed in an amazing and awing way. Our God is AWESOME and He is ABLE to heal! We are on track to go to rehab at Craig Hospital in Colorado on Jan. 6th provided we do not have any additional setbacks.

Happy Daughters Day to this WARRIOR 💚💕

I am sharing again. We spent the day in the ER with my dad today. He had some sudden changes with his oxygen and is spiking a fever. They did a sepsis work up due to his vitals. Ariel was diligent in checking on him 💗 He is home but he is not feeling well. Please say a prayer for him. We need all of the prayers! His 72nd birthday is on 9/11 and my parents 50th anniversary is on 9/27. He told us he would hang on to make these milestones. Ariel’s accident took a toll on him.

This week (my return to work) has went well in many areas and we are struggling in others. I think this is to be expected.
I need extra prayers in providing support and guidance to Ariel in her new freedom. I am questioning if I loosened the reigns too soon but financially I had to go back to work.
We were also invited to share our story at a church with their youth group. I need prayers in putting this presentation together and presenting it. I know God is directing me however, it’s way out of my comfort zone.
Finally.. this pic is one that my mom sent me today. It was 11/24/24 at 1039 am. Not even 12 hours from the call from Mattie that she had been in an accident. Crying and praying for my girl. I have shared our story with a few of my new coworkers and I was asked today how do you work through this or keep going? I said honestly, I’m still in a sense of trauma mode. I have worked really hard to TRY to stop anticipating or worrying but I have to continue life. I have to fight as long as she is fighting. I have to support her and be an example of strength.

Today marks 9 months since Ariel’s accident. She is my miracle girl! She has come so far and also has a lot of healing left to do. 💕

Ariel has made huge improvements physically, especially after her surgery in July. Her pain is well controlled now and she is working on her wobble. If she concentrates she can walk without it.
She had Botox injections for daily headaches which seemed to help at first but is no longer working. I think her headaches are worse when she does more. I think they are stimulation related. However, I am not going to keep this kid from living life 💕 She has to listen to her body.

She started nail school 💅and is enjoying it. She is working on her speed and dexterity. She is still a little weaker on her left side. She is also working on appropriate social interactions in therapy. This is different from before. She has always had a gift for gabbing and small talk but now she clams up.

We did not get to go on vacation but we did go spend a weekend at the lake with family.

I will start orientation for a position at the hospital on Monday. Dayshift 🙌🏼
We will have big adjustments coming up as Ariel will have to be more independent. She is capable but sometimes lacks the will to do the mundane things.
She is incredibly strong and I am so proud of her progress.

Here are a few pics of this summer 💕
Thank you to everyone that continues to pray for us. We need those prayers and are thankful for your support.

I know it has been some time since I have given an update on Ariel.
My perimenopause and her brain injury keep me busy. She is doing well and I have more to share when I have the energy mentally to put the words together. 🫣💕

Please send your free vote to this cute couple! They supported me in so many ways while Ariel was in the hospital 💕

One couple will appear in an advertorial in Variety and take home $20,000.

There is literally no match to Craig Hospital! As insurance denies Ariel’s air ambulance bill saying the standard of care would have been to go to RCP or Encompass Health because they are closer! They are NOT equal. 3 hours of therapy locally versus 6-8 at Craig. I do not regret my decision. Think about being in a hospital room and the difference between being stuck in a room for 21 hrs vs being in a room for 16 hrs at the age of 17 and 18. Ariel slept approximately 12 hours a night so that left a small amount of time around ADLs to ruminate on her situation.

Ariel went for her post op appointment yesterday! Everything looks good and is in place. 🙌🏼 Her wounds are healing well. She flew through this surgery like it was her job! She refused to be down which caused a little excess bleeding. I put her on restrictions for a couple days which resolved the bleeding. She did a little too much too soon. She wants to live life so hard and doesn’t want to miss a thing! She wanted to float around the pool so she could be with her cousins 💕
Sleeping Beauty took a nap the second time when it was just us.

Waiting for God’s timing is HARD! The surgery was unexpected for sure. It’s crazy how life can change in an instant. Ariel will be starting nail school on Monday 🤩 and returns to therapy on Tuesday. She will be a busy girl which is what she likes these days. Sometimes it’s too much and I have to lay down the law. Her brain needs rest for healing.
I am still looking for a full or part time job that will be flexible enough for me to return to school September or October. I have lots of applications out and hope something comes through soon. Cobra insurance is killing me 💸
I am trusting God and trying not to worry about tomorrow as God commands.
Thank you all for your continued prayers 💕
