Women, Life & Science

Women, Life & Science A Podcast Designed for Women by Women We have stories to tell and knowledge to impart. We share in kindness and we share openly. We are grateful for many things.

Women, Life and Science is really just that - women, living a full life, have a professional career in science or in some form or another have been involved in the industry. We overcame challenges, uncertainties and continue to navigate the ever evolving professional and personal balance. We have little regrets but easily forgive ourselves for our missteps. Women, Life and Science is the open forum for dialogue, presentations and story-telling.

A Legacy of Wonder, Compassion & Courage

From a young girl captivated by Africa and its creatures, Jane grew into a pioneer in science not by following the rules, but by redefining them. She journeyed to the forests of Gombe with little more than a notebook, binoculars, and a boundless curiosity. And in doing so, showed humanity that we are not separate from nature, but deeply connected to it.

Her bold approach naming individual chimpanzees, observing them tenderly and patiently revealed that apes have emotions, personalities, and social bonds. Through her work, she softened the line between “us” and “them.”

She was more than a scientist—she was a voice for the voiceless, founding the Jane Goodall Institute and the Roots & Shoots youth program to empower people around the world to care for our planet and all its beings.

🌸 A Symbol of Hope & Strength

As October approaches, pink ribbons will once again remind us of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Behind this now-iconic symbol is Evelyn Lauder — a visionary who transformed breast cancer from a whispered topic into a global movement of science, advocacy, and hope!

Instead of letting silence surround the disease, Evelyn used her voice and influence to shine a light on women’s health. By co-creating the pink ribbon and founding the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, she helped fuel scientific discovery while reminding women everywhere of the power of awareness, early detection, and solidarity.

Evelyn’s story is one of courage and change — and one of the “radical sisters” featured in Judith L. Pearson’s book Radical Sisters. We talked about her in last week’s podcast episode with Judith, where we explored how women like Evelyn reshaped the landscape of women’s health and science.

Who's ready for the next Science Cafe? 👀

October is for Women' Health!

Women experience epigenetic marks throughout life, shaped by hormonal cycles, pregnancy, trauma or stress, cancer risks, and aging.

But here’s the reminder: your genes are not your destiny. You have the power to silence harmful genes and activate protective ones.

Through epigenetics, lifestyle choices, supportive environments, and medical care, it’s possible to “reprogram” how your genes behave—helping you build strength and resilience.

At this Science Café, you’ll meet Dr. Melissa Overman, who at the core of her practice, use genetics and epigenetics to tailor care. She integrates tools like functional testing, Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), Ayurveda, and autonomic nervous system work to support healing. She will give practical ways to support your genes through everyday habits and gain insights from real research on women’s health and resilience.

This session is especially valuable for women navigating midlife changes, health-conscious individuals, caregivers, and anyone curious about how science connects to daily living.

Want to practice activating your protective genes? Join us at our Science Café on October 13, 2025! Same place, same time, with the same goal of learning something new!

Registration is now open: https://lnkd.in/g6NyBaYG

Thank You for joining spending your Monday with us at our September Science Café!

We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us for this inspiring session on understanding the difference between what you do and why you do

Together, we explored how understanding and embracing our “why” can shape not only our personal journeys but also the way we lead, innovate, and create impact in our communities.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible resource speaker, Scott Hicks, who have been inspiring women since our Conference and for sharing wisdom and stories that reminded us that purpose fuels passion, and passion drives meaningful action.

To all our participants—your presence, questions, and insights made this café truly engaging.

We hope you left with fresh perspectives, renewed motivation, and a clearer sense of your own “why.”

📌See you at our upcoming Science Cafe this October!
