Congratulations to my wife, Dr. Eveangel H Savage, the 17th President of ENCR-ABSW, and to the entire body on 50 years of powerful service to our community.

I get a front-row seat to what many will never see — the long nights, the unwavering commitment, the grit, and the grace you carry into every room you enter. Your tenacity for excellence doesn’t waver, even when the work is heavy. You lead with heart, purpose, and a calling far bigger than any one moment.

I’m proud of you, proud of this milestone, and proud of the legacy you continue to build. Here’s to 50 years of service — and to the chapter you have helped shape with courage, vision, and faith.

Always cheering you on.

In a world that feels heavier by the day, people ask, “Why social work?”
And honestly… it’s simple.

Because somebody has to hold the line when systems fail.
Somebody has to see the humanity in folks who feel invisible.
Somebody has to sit with the hurting, advocate for the silenced, and help rebuild what life has torn apart.

We don’t choose social work because it’s easy.
We choose it because purpose has a way of choosing us.

Social work is the work of the soil—digging, planting, nurturing, uprooting, rebuilding.
It’s the quiet work that shifts families, neighborhoods, and generations.
It’s the kind of work that doesn’t always get applause, but it always bears fruit.

And even in a time of degree caps, financial strain, workforce shortages, and a government that sometimes forgets who holds the community together…
we still show up.

Not because the environment is perfect,
but because the people deserve better.

Social work is more than a profession.
It’s restoration.
It’s advocacy.
It’s compassion in motion.
It’s hope with hands and feet.

And for many of us?
It’s our ministry.

This is why we stay.
This is why we serve.
This is why social work still matters—now more than ever.

Congratulations to ENCR-ABSW on five decades of community service. "Called to serve: Moving forward with hope, grace, and mercy."

There are some things we never let our friends do alone — and celebrating this moment is one of them. When she goes, we go.

Please help us congratulate our dear friend, sister, and leader, Minister Lorie M. Savage, who will deliver the keynote message for the 50th Anniversary of the Eastern North Carolina Regional Association of Black Social Workers, Sunday, December 7, 2025, 11:00 - 3:00 p.m.

It’s more than fitting — it’s divine alignment.

A woman who has given her life to the work at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels is now stepping forward to speak into a half-century of service, legacy, and community care.

We’re so proud of you, Minister Savage.

Your journey, your heart, and your unwavering commitment to the people make this moment powerful.

Congratulations, sis. We’re right beside you, cheering you on every step of the way. 💙🖤

Slow mornings are their own kind of medicine.

Today it’s just me, the aroma of a simmering broth filling the house, pondering new soup recipes while jars wait to be canned and the freeze dryer hums its quiet rhythm in the background.

And in the middle of all that goodness?
A little self-care with every stroke of my crochet needle as this beautiful hat comes to life.

Building a strong home economy isn’t always loud or rushed. Sometimes it looks like broth, yarn, peace, and purpose — all working together to restore the soul.

Here’s to slow mornings, intentional living, and creating what sustains us.

Did we not see this coming when systems began to implement dual enrollment programs for highschoolers to obtain healthcare credentials before leaving high school for free to meet the urgent demand?

These models weakened the old belief that a 4-year degree is the gateway to all professional roles.

Could policy changes be driven by workforce shortages?

NCSL discusses how interstate licensure compacts (for nurses, physicians, etc) are being pursued to expand supply of professionals rather than maintain strict traditional pathways.

With the post-pandemic health care workforce stretched to its limits, state legislatures are in search of solutions. Interstate licensure compacts have emerged as one of many legislative strategies to add some depth to local labor pools. “It’s a legal contract between states,” Matt Shafer, dep...
