Driver Rescued From Burning Vehicle Following Crash
Hollansburg- Two bystanders are credited with saving the life of a Hollansburg woman after pulling her from a burning vehicle Monday evening. On May 18, 2026 at approximately 5:20 p.m. Darke County Deputies along with Hollansburg Fire, Liberty Township Fire and Tri-Village Rescue responded to the area of Hollansburg-Tampico Road and Mikesell Road in reference to a one-vehicle roll-over crash with entrapment.
According to the Darke County Sheriff's Office, a preliminary investigation into the incident has revealed that a grey Chevy Suburban, driven by Heather Combs, 48, of Hollansburg, was traveling northbound on Hollansburg-Tampico Road when her vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway colliding with a utility pole and rolling two times, coming to rest on its side. The vehicle then caught fire, and due to the drivers' injuries, she was unable to escape. The driver of the vehicle was rescued from the fiery crash by two nearby residents who were alerted to the crash.
Although CareFlight was requested to the scene, due to inclement weather conditions the driver was transported to Wayne HealthCare for what have been described as serious non life threatening injuries.
This incident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff's Office.
