Congratulations to our area athletes at the PIAA State Track and Field Championships in Shippensburg on Saturday.
Hickory received the PIAA’s runner-up team trophy for its second-place effort to District 12′s Neumann-Goretti.
Saturday’s results included event gold medals given out to members of its 400 Relay (48.78 seconds) and to Tori McKinley in the Shot Put (48-11 3/4). McKinley, who is headed to Auburn, after high school also won Friday’s Discus competition.
Heather Grober, one-fourth of the Hornets’ victorious 400 Relay team, also was the Bronze medalist (43.59) for the 300 Hurdles competition. The Hickory Senior sought to repeat as champion in the 300 Hurdles; but came up short.
Jordan Williams defended as the PIAA’s fastest runner for the 1,600. The Sharon Senior was the only finalist who cracked five minutes (4:59.01).
