Congratulations to our area athletes at the PIAA State Track and Field Championships in Shippensburg on Saturday.

Hickory received the PIAA’s runner-up team trophy for its second-place effort to District 12′s Neumann-Goretti.

Saturday’s results included event gold medals given out to members of its 400 Relay (48.78 seconds) and to Tori McKinley in the Shot Put (48-11 3/4). McKinley, who is headed to Auburn, after high school also won Friday’s Discus competition.

Heather Grober, one-fourth of the Hornets’ victorious 400 Relay team, also was the Bronze medalist (43.59) for the 300 Hurdles competition. The Hickory Senior sought to repeat as champion in the 300 Hurdles; but came up short.

Jordan Williams defended as the PIAA’s fastest runner for the 1,600. The Sharon Senior was the only finalist who cracked five minutes (4:59.01).

Join Sunny 1470 this Saturday, May 13th in downtown Sharon, PA @ Reyers Shoe Store. A very special mural is being painted on the North side of the store (State Street) for everyone to enjoy as you are in beautiful downtown Sharon.

We will be broadcasting from 3-5pm from the Northside of the building as the mural is being painted.

The mural was awarded to The Park Inn by Radisson in West Middlesex, PA; in a contest throughout the Radisson hotel chain.

So, come out and enjoy the festivities in the downtown area.

The following schools are on a 2 Hour Delay - Farrell, Hermitage, Kennedy Catholic, Sharon, Sharpsville, Shenango Valley Faith Academy, West Middlesex, Wilmington, and Youngstown City.

BC3 will start classes at 9:30am.
PSU-SHENANGO will begin at 10am.

The Laurel Technical Institute is on a 2 Hour Delay as well.

Remember, Mercer County is a part of an area in a Winter Storm Warning through 8am on Wednesday.

It will be Mostly Cloudy for your Friday. Snow showers and very blustery, with a high of 29.

Tonight will see much the same as today; however, wind chills could reach below 0 and a low around 12.

Saturday doesn't change much either; with more blustery conditions and wind chills that will reach into the sub zero range and a high of 23 and a low near 14.

Sunday will give us occasional sunshine and a chance of snow showers, with a high near 26 and a low near 13.

Sunny 1470 will be broadcasting PIAA State Wrestling Championship action LIVE from Hershey's Giant Center.

Action gets underway this morning at 9:00am, with the 2nd Round Consolation matches.

Then, at 11:45am action resumes with the 3rd Round Consolation matches.

Tonight, at 7:30pm, the 4th Round Consolations and the Semi Finals get underway.

Followed at 9:30pm of the 5th Round Consolation matches.

SATURDAY -
The Finals will air beginning at 2:00pm.
Then, at 4:30pm... the 3rd, 5th, and 7th place matches will take place to wrap up the weekend.

Sunny 1470 has been experiencing some technical difficulties due to the recent wind storms that came through the Shenango and Mahoning Valley's on Wednesday.

Our studios and offices got power restored on Thursday afternoon; however, the transmitter site in Masury, OH is still without power yet.

According to Ohio Edison (a subsidiary of First Energy), power should be restored by Friday night at 11:30pm.
