Yesterday, Greenwich recently hosted the WASEREN League Championship meet while also taking time to celebrate their senior athletes. The team finished seventh overall. The seniors made notable contributions, including Joe Radovich, who clinched first place in the 400 meters with a time of 49.73 seconds, and Jayden White, who took victory in the 100 meters with a time of 11.57 seconds. Ava Aierstok impressed with her 800-meter run, finishing in 3.07 minutes.

Julia Sgambelluri, despite dealing with injuries, received recognition during the ceremony for her dedication. She highlighted her father’s role as coach of the track team, citing him as a source of inspiration for all Greenwich athletes. Additionally, standout hurdler Arianna Derby excelled, winning the 100-meter hurdles and securing second place in the 400-meter hurdles. Hudson Logan won the boys pentathlon with 2199 points. Overall, it was a proud moment for the Greenwich track team and its seniors. —DAN PEMRICK PHOTOS

GREENWICH POST OFFICE TO BID FAREWELL

By Wendy McCauley
USPS Rural Carrier, Greenwich
Special to Journal & Press

The Greenwich Post Office says farewell on May 23rd to two veteran employees. After 30 years, Robert "Bob" Dickie and Brian Perkins will be retiring from the United States Postal Service.

Bob began his Postal career in Winfield, KS, in 1994 as a PTF Carrier. He has worked in several offices throughout his career and has held several supervisor positions before coming to Greenwich where he has been the Post Master for just over two and a half years. Bob's friendly demeanor and sense of humor have made it a pleasure to work with him. Even though Bob hasn't been in the Greenwich office long, he has made this office his home and devoted many long days, sacrificing his days off in order to keep the office running. One could find him working the window, walking and delivering the city routes, and driving the rural routes when needed. Retirement will find him enjoying time with his family.

Brian's Postal career began in 1995 as a City Carrier in South Glens Falls. He transferred to Greenwich where he has been a City Carrier since 2012. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. No words are more true! Brian has been a loyal and reliable carrier who has sacrificed many of his days off in order to deliver the mail to his customers. He certainly has created some rather large shoes to fill! He has enjoyed his daily encounters with all the animals on his route. Amazingly he has only suffered a couple of dog bites over the 30 years. Brian has endured walking miles and miles and miles five to six days a week. One can only imagine how many shoes he has gone through! He will now be taking a well deserved rest and enjoying spending time with his family.

If you happen to see Bob or Brian, make sure to congratulate them and wish them well.
