Mom To MORE What Do You Want To Do When Your Kids Grow Up?

08/24/2026

At this stage of our lives, we have earned the right to show up exactly as we are.

No hiding. No performing. No shrinking ourselves to make other people comfortable.

We have the wisdom, the experience, and decades of showing up, figuring it out, and doing hard things, often for everyone else but ourselves.

And yet...so many of us are still hiding.

Late one night, sitting on the couch with her husband, my guest Krista Demcher | Personal Brand + Storytelling | Keynote Speaker was frustrated. She was doing everything right - checking every box, sending every message - and getting nowhere in her sales position.

Her husband looked at her and said: you haven't put yourself into it yet. You're hiding behind the product.

She was mad😠 . Because she knew he was right.

That one uncomfortable, inconvenient moment of truth is the foundation of everything Krista has built since. Stop hiding. Show up as you. Be vulnerable. Be real. Be the woman you've already spent decades becoming.

Hard? Yes. She'll tell you that herself.

Worth it? Everything she has built says so.❤️

The biggest lie so many moms believe about themselves is that they need permission to start something new.

They tell themselves they're not qualified enough.
Not experienced enough.
Not smart enough.

That is so not true.

If you've spent 10, 15, 25 years raising children, you've already been building skills that many people spend years trying to learn.

You've managed a household.
You've solved problems every single day.
You've led with compassion.
You've made difficult decisions.
You've kept showing up even when no one was handing you a title or a paycheck.

Motherhood isn't a gap in your rĂŠsumĂŠ.

It's one of the greatest leadership experiences you'll ever have.

Maybe your next chapter requires learning something new. Maybe it requires taking a class, building a business, or stepping into a career you've never imagined.

But don't underestimate everything you've already done.

You are not starting from zero.

You're starting with resilience, wisdom, and years of experience that have been preparing you all along.

What's one dream you've been putting off because you thought you weren't qualified enough? I'd love to hear it. ❤️

Thrilled to be making my PROVOKEDmagazine debut this Thursday in the Dear Reader newsletter ❤️

And maybe even more thrilled that I’m doing it with a personal essay about what it really means to show up fully in the body you’re in.

I can’t wait for you to read it.

You’ll need to subscribe, and can do it here for as little as….well, free: https://provokedmagazine.com/membership/

Come for the sequins and spray tans. ✨ Stay for the conversation about what happens when a woman decides she has absolutely nothing to apologize for and proudly shows up, fear and all.

Have you ever stopped to think about how many systems you've built as a mom? 🤔

Most of us don't.

We simply do what needs to be done.

We create routines that help mornings run a little smoother. We figure out schedules that somehow keep everyone where they need to be. We adjust when plans change, solve problems on the fly, and find better ways to make our homes function.

We call it motherhood.

But another way to describe it is systems thinking.

The funny thing is, many women don't recognize these skills because they weren't developed in a boardroom or listed on a rĂŠsumĂŠ.

They were developed around the kitchen table, in the carpool line, during bedtime routines, and in the countless invisible moments that keep a family moving forward.

Those skills matter.

They're transferable.

And they may be exactly what prepares you for your next chapter.

What's one "mom skill" you didn't realize was a real-life skill until later? I'd love to hear your answer. ❤️

Sometimes the strongest thing a mother can do… is walk away.

That decision is never easy. It comes with heartbreak, fear, and countless questions. But as Katie shares in this week's episode of Mom to More, there comes a point when you have to ask yourself:

What am I teaching my children by what I'm willing to accept?

One thing Katie said that stayed with me was this:

"I didn't leave despite my children. I left because of them."

She knew she didn't want to model a relationship where she wasn't valued, respected, or truly partnered with. That perspective is one so many women need to hear.

If you've ever wrestled with choosing yourself, setting healthy boundaries, or wondering what your children are learning from the life you live, this conversation will stay with you long after it ends.

I definitely lost myself when my kids were younger.

Or at least I thought I did.

I convinced myself that because I wasn't building a career or collecting titles, I had somehow become less interesting. Less capable. Less relevant.

If someone asked what I did, I'd usually say, "I'm home with the kids."

Looking back, I wish I had answered differently.

I was raising the next generation.

I was leading a family.
Managing a household.
Solving problems every single day.
Making countless decisions.
Showing up with love, patience, and resilience, even when no one else noticed.

Those years didn't take away my skills.

They strengthened them.

Motherhood wasn't the reason I lost myself.

It was what shaped the woman I am today.

If you've ever questioned your value because your work wasn't measured by a paycheck or a job title, I hope you'll remember this:

The world may not have seen everything you were doing.

But it mattered.

And it still does. ❤️

What problems have you solved today?

As moms, we solve hundreds of little problems that often go unnoticed.

✨ Finding the missing shoe five minutes before everyone has to leave.
✨ Calming a child who's had a hard day.
✨ Stretching a budget to make everything work.
✨ Keeping the household running when life feels chaotic.
✨ Making difficult decisions with love, even when they're not easy.

It's easy to overlook these moments because they've become part of everyday life.

But here's the truth.

Motherhood has been developing skills that reach far beyond raising children.

Leadership.
Resilience.
Adaptability.
Compassion.
Problem solving.

Those aren't just parenting skills.

They're life skills.

So if you've ever questioned whether you're capable of taking on something new, remember this:

You've been solving problems all along.

What's one challenge you've handled recently that made you stop and think, "I actually did that"? ❤️

What if motherhood didn’t take you away from who you were meant to become… but actually prepared you for it? ❤️

In my conversation with Katie, we talked about the skills motherhood has hardwired into her: preparation, thinking five steps ahead, researching, planning for the unexpected… and remembering to have FUN along the way.

And those same skills have made her a better pilot, interviewer, storyteller, adventurer, and woman.

I think we underestimate just how much motherhood teaches us.

We learn to anticipate needs before they’re spoken.
We pivot when the plan falls apart.
We prepare. We problem-solve. We lead.
And hopefully, we remember to bring a little adventure along with us.

Motherhood doesn’t erase your skill set. It expands it.

What has motherhood made YOU better at?
