Yup, means girls have always been a thing. But in recent years it has started at a much younger age, thanks in large part to social media exposure, and, frankly pathetically, it seems to be going on deep into adulthood too. The sad truth is that no matter where you go, there are mean girls. And honestly, it’s starting a lot younger than I ever expected. It breaks my heart a little to see how early girls start feeling left out, compared, or unsure of where they fit in. What's even more shocking is how little is done to correct it, not by parents, not by schools, etc. Which is exactly why a program like this one feels so meaningful right now.
The YWCA Greenwich Girls Circle Program is created for girls entering 5th through 8th grade, and it gently focuses on the things so many girls quietly carry at that age: friendships, confidence, self-esteem, leadership, and learning how to move through social dynamics in a healthy, kind way. What I love most is that it still feels like summer.
✨ mentorship from older girls

✨ fitness classes
✨ arts & crafts
✨ pool days
✨ manicures
✨ lemonade stands
✨ leadership development
It runs June 22 through August 7 at YWCA Greenwich, with week-by-week registration so it can fit around whatever your summer already looks like. If you have a daughter heading into 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th grade, and you want her to spend part of her summer somewhere she feels seen, supported, and genuinely encouraged, this is the kind of program that can quietly shape the years ahead of her.
