Message from First Selectman Fred Camillo
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning beginning at 7pm today and lasting until 6am Tuesday. This long lasting major storm may bring total snowfall of between 12 and 18 inches. Strong winds gusting to almost 40 miles per hour may produce blizzard-like conditions making travel extremely unsafe and wind chill factors well below freezing. The strongest portion of the storm should arrive Monday afternoon. There is potential for flooding in low lying and coastal areas on Monday with the high tide.
The lobby of the Public Safety Complex will be open as a warming center if needed.
In order to assist the Department of Public Works in their snow removal efforts, the Board of Selectmen has declared a snow emergency for the Town of Greenwich effective at 8pm tonight, January 31st.
This means that there will be no parking allowed on designated snow emergency routes, which are posted with signs and listed on the Town of Greenwich web site.
If you have any appointments on Monday or Tuesday, including Covid vaccinations, please verify that they will be open before you attempt travel. We encourage you to re-schedule appointments now, if possible.
As you prepare now for the storm, please pay attention to those around you who may need a little extra assistance. Like all the challenges we have faced this past year, we can get through this together.
Be safe and please watch out for one another.
Listen to WGCH (1490 FM/105.5 FM) and wgch.com for great holiday music now through tomorrow! We're running commercial-free with top of the hour news breaks, along with greetings from our staff and family! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! #HoHoHo
Just say, "Alexa, play WGCH Radio."
Town of Greenwich
Greetings Greenwich friends and neighbors.
On the cusp of the start of winter, we certainly all got to experience a bit of Old Man Winter this week.
The snow and bitter winds presented quite the challenge for our Department of Public Works and Parks & Recreation crews who worked around-the-clock to keep our roads passable. They are continuing their work to provide even more clean up.
Thank you for abiding by the snow emergency (which expired at 4 p.m. today) to help make that work a bit easier. Beginning Monday night (December 21), crews will be out overnight to remove the massive snow piles around Town. So I ask that you comply with any temporary ‘no parking’ restrictions that will be posted – that will facilitate the crews’ work.
I also want to give a shout-out to all of the first responders – police, fire (both professional and the volunteers) and GEMS – who worked throughout the storm to provide the first-class emergency services they always do.
COVID-19 Update
As of today, December 18, the Town has seen an increase of 265 reported new cases from a week ago. According to Health Director Caroline Baisley, there are 115 active cases. The vast majority of patients are 11 to 60 years old.
Greenwich Public Schools is reporting that there are 18 active cases in 10 of our schools and that 16 of those cases can be traced to non-school activities or family exposure. Two cases are linked to in-school exposure.
As of today, there has been a total of 2,170 residents who have tested positive since the pandemic began.
As of today, Greenwich Hospital was treating 31 patients with COVID-19, with one patient in the ICU.
Sadly, during the past week we have lost another resident to COVID. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Town has lost a total of 60 residents.
If you have any symptom such as a fever, cough, shortness of breath or loss of taste or smell, please get tested.

Good news!
This year, however, the feast is just that: a feast. No carnival rides or games of chance. No live music or kegs of beer, but the organizers are going above and beyond to create a safe, delicious, outdoor dining experience behind the St Roch Christian Life Center.
WGCH has learned of the passing of Greenwich hockey coach Chris Rurak. Our condolences to his loved ones. More info as it becomes available.
