Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country. ❤️🤍💙
Memorial Day means a little extra to me personally.
My dad was serving in Vietnam when I was born. My mom found out she was pregnant after he had already left for Vietnam and had to tell him through snail mail that he was going to be a dad.
When I decided to arrive two weeks early, there were no cell phones, no FaceTime, and no instant communication. The Red Cross had to notify my dad that I had been born, and it took several days for that message to reach him.
My mom walked through an entire pregnancy alone. She gave birth without my dad beside her. She cared for a newborn during those first precious months while he was serving our country thousands of miles away.
I know firsthand that military service is not just one person serving. Military spouses serve. Children serve. Parents serve. Families sacrifice. There are missed birthdays, holidays apart, sleepless nights, worry, uncertainty, and moments you can never get back.
Because brave men and women answered the call to serve, we have freedoms we often take for granted every single day.
Today, we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. We honor those who served, those who are serving, and the families who stood beside them through it all.
To all military members and families — thank you. 🇺🇸❤️
Freedom isn’t free.
