There are two types of people…those who think Jaws is the greatest movie of all time and those who are wrong. With that in mind, Free Kittens humbly offers a few personal (and very subjective) reasons why the film remains totally Jawsome…even 50 years later.

At 102 minutes, Screamboat is way too long for a one-joke movie. It ain’t great, but as cheap & sleazy cash-grabs go, I can't honestly say it's disappointing. While Walt definitely wouldn't approve, at least director Steven LaMorte manages a bit more than simply keeping the camera in focus.

As an admirer of John Sturges, I always enjoy discovering the films of his I haven’t seen yet. Mystery Street is an early one and he’s obviously more of a director-for-hire here, but he keeps things fast-paced and fun, aided by a smart screenplay, moody John Alton cinematography, and of course, an early turn by the guy I once knew simply as Khan.

Body Odyssey is a surreal psychological/body horror film with an aesthetic similar to David Cronenberg's work. For awhile, it’s kind of interesting, but the film’s deliberate pace and increasing pretentiousness eventually grow a little tiresome

The Alto Knights is no classic and ain’t destined to be mentioned among Hollywood’s greatest mob movies. In fact, it’ll probably be largely forgotten in a year or two. But keeping that in-mind, the movie still works as an engaging (if familiar) way to kill a few hours.

Soderbergh obviously didn’t set out to make a traditional horror movie. In fact, it’s just-as-much a somber drama of an increasingly dysfunctional family. As such, Presence isn’t without its aesthetic and narrative shortcomings, but overall, it’s a pretty interesting film.

Re-Animator still holds up really well. Like the best horror films of the ‘80s, it has since transcended its decade - narratively and aesthetically - to become a true classic. The movie’s power to shock audiences may have diminished, but it’s still a potent shot of nostalgic nastiness.
