Experience the magic of Christmas like never before, beginning this Saturday with a new drive-through professional light show at America’s Outdoor Adventure Park in Jay. The event runs for 12 nights, and each night the show begins at 6 p.m. Stay warm in your car while enjoying the show, which will include four sections of the 400-acre park.

The magic of the season is designed by Oklahoma City-based Wolf Laser FX, which works throughout the United States creating special effects for professional concerts and the NBA team the Houston Rockets.

The cost is $20 per car or vehicle, including a school bus or any type of vehicle. The drive-through will be about four miles and you can go through several times and stop as well. You can even walk the course or bring a scooter.

“At some point you will probably want to get out of your vehicle at our bigger installations,” Owen said. “We will make safety ropes so if people want to pull off and get out and sit there. We will encourage it.”

The program runs every night starting on Saturday night until Christmas Eve, for 12 days of Christmas. Everything will be automated from six or seven computers running 50 lasers.

The Jay Lady Bulldogs continue to make their mark on the softball field, and the 2025 season has brought well-deserved recognition to two of the team’s most dynamic athletes. Named All-District Utility, Jovy Ward and Zariah Kingfisher have proven that versatility, grit, and heart are at the core of Jay High School softball.

Throughout the season, both Ward and Kingfisher embraced every challenge thrown way. Whether switching roles, adjusting to new demands, or providing leadership in crucial moments, they showed what true utility players look like. They did whatever their team needed — and they did it with heart. That’s not just talent. That’s unbreakable mentality. Read the full story in this week's Delaware County Journal.

Superintendent of Jay Public Schools Leann Barnwell recently addressed the Jay School District’s decision to stop further scheduling against Grove in all sports at the high school and middle school level. Mrs. Barnwell stated she understands the public’s reaction.

“I went to Jay schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. I’ve played in the Grove rivalry. I’ve taught and I’ve coached here at Jay. I’ve also been a parent of children who have played in the rivalry,” said Barnwell. “I understand the importance placed on the rivalry and how hard it is to give it up, but we have to do what is best for our students, athletes, and our school.”

There is an axiom in sports which many locally have brought up; ‘you get better by playing better competition.’

“I agree,” said Barnwell. “We are not saying we are going to play against smaller schools, we are going to play schools our size. Grove currently has close to a 1,000 more students than we do.”

Barnwell said the ultimate decision to stop scheduling the Ridgerunners in all high school and middle school sports was made by her, adding that she visited with other administrators about this over a several year period. Read the full story in this week's Delaware County Journal.
