OAK GROVE CEMETERY CLEAN-UP
On behalf of the OGCD Board of Trustees, the families of those resting there, and the history of the town, and Randy Henderson, our Groundskeeper, we'd like to personally and publicly thank Supervisor Steve Griefer for arranging the Sheriff work crew to clean up the grounds, that are so desperately in need of some landscape maintenance. This being a County facility, we've been trying to get the crew out to clean it up for years, to no avail. Thank you, Steve for going to bat for us and getting our historical cemetery recognized.

We had a good turnout yesterday at the Divide Cemetery's Memorial Day flag lowing/bugle ceremony. Roland Elliot played Taps on his antique WWI era bugle while Tom King lowered the flag to half mast in honor of the veterans. Roland also told the history of Memorial Day and other stories of world leaders and war battles. Roland is a long time Groveland local and an 87 year old Korean War veteran. Thank you Roland, thank you Sheriff Pooley, and thank you to everyone else who attended and observed social distancing while honoring our fallen veterans.

Our community has some wonderful volunteers. This year Linda KIng and her daughters Tia and Crystal along with Jeanie Hooven trekked every inch of the cemetery and placed approximately 200 flags at the graves of Veterans for this Memorial Day holiday. Thank you Linda, Tia, Crystal, and Jeanie!!
Please join us on Monday, May 25 at 10am at the Divide for a short Memorial Day Ceremony where Korean War Veteran Roland Elliot will give a brief history of the Memorial Day holiday and play Taps on his antique WWI bugle. The ceremony takes place outdoors at the historic Divide Cemetery, so there is plenty of room for social distancing. Afterwards, why not enjoy a walk through our peaceful old cemetery and take in some of the history of those who lived before us here in the Gold Country.

Jeanie Hooven and Jon Westray spent some time at the cemetery today volunteering as flag setters in preparation for tomorrows Veteran's Day Ceremony at the Divide. They, along with several Oak Grove Cemetery District Trustees put flags on the graves of all the Veterans buried at the Divide - It's a lot of walking and a lot of work. Thank you Jeanie and Jon!
We hope to have a big crowd at the Divide Cemetery Veteran's Day Ceremony tomorrow (Monday, November 11). There will be a Fly-By at 10:15am and then Roland Elliot will explain the history of the Holiday and then play Taps.
Come on out - Attendance is free.
