A Japanese bride. Her own boat. A canal lined with 1 million iris flowers.

This is the Ayame Festival in Itako City — a 4,000-year-old wedding tradition you can actually watch as a visitor. For two weeks every year, a bride floats down the canal toward her groom while everyone snaps photos. It's completely magical, and almost no foreign tourists know it exists.

Itako is 10 minutes from Narita Airport. Ten minutes.

Could tourists really leave their child at a daycare in Tokyo and enjoy a few hours playing - without parents? Without us?! YUP! We checked our son into ANONE Kids Club in Yurakucho (Ginza) to find out -- and it changed the way we think about family travel in Japan. While he was there, we went on a date to an omakase sushi restaurant and Japanese department store for luxury gift shopping, things a 5 year old wouldn't like at all. Parents can have their own time while kids enjoy a play vacation in Tokyo, the ultimate win-win for families traveling to Japan with kids. Tokyo has a new Childcare Service for tourists and residents - ANO-NE Kids Club is open 2-10pm on weekdays , 10-10 weekends and Leo's been loving it! My wife and I go on dates once a month and Leo plays here, Highly recommend it, new video on YouTube about it, our experience
