It’s time for Blind Sample C - I’ll spare ya’ the intro as I know nothing about this bottle yet and just say this - I haven’t been guessing too well… have I fallen off? Am I washed up?

Type of Wh***ey Guess (Rye’d Bourbon, Wheated Bourbon, Rye Wh***ey, Other) : Rye’d Bourbon

Proof Guess : 101

Age Guess : 7 Years

Distillery Guess : Wild Turkey

Nose : Citrus forward, solid amount of proof… maybe- it at least noses that way. Vanilla, rye spice, more spice.

Palate : Citrus and clove and/or rye spice forward. Some vanillas and caramels in the background but the citrus and rye spice are dominant which makes me think turkey. Finish is medium in length and a bit spice heavy, too.

MSRP : I’d pay $60 for this one, very traditional - gotta be legacy I’d think, and drinking like wild turkey to me?

Score : 6.8

Reveal : Tradecraft Spirits 8 Year. In this limited release 8 year, 121 proof bourbon, Nancy Fraley blended 13 barrels comprised of MGP high-rye bourbon and Broad Branch’s low-rye bourbon. The group gave this an average score of 5.8, but tbh that’s a little low. This was very solid stuff. I should have known it was wasn’t 101 proof but I was so stuck on Wild Turkey here… I’m washed.

Type of Wh***ey Guess (Rye’d Bourbon, Wheated Bourbon, Rye Wh***ey, Other) :
Other Wh***ey (Corn Wh***ey??)

Proof Guess : 115 proof

Age Guess : 5 years

Distillery Guess : Nobleton’s Distilling House

Nose : Relatively soft on the nose but you can tell there’s a bit of proof here. Getting some corn forward notes, popcorn, vanilla, caramel. Pleasant, but not complex.

Palate : This is pretty dang good and very manageable. It is a touch on the simple side but sometimes these simpler pours can be very nice, and I think this is one of them. Buttered popcorn, vanilla, a touch of caramel are all here. There’s a bit of a spice here but I don’t think it’s rye, more of s very slight proofy bite. Finish is medium in length and vanilla heavy.

MSRP : While unsure, I’d be willing to pay $55-$60.

Score : 6.5

Reveal : Lol what? Four Gate BRBN Downunder…

“This 6.5 year, high rye MGP bourbon was finished in Australian apera sherry casks, yielding a total of 2,178 bottles for Four Gate’s Batch 24”.
This was a $200 bottle discounted all the way down to $64 at The Party Source in NKY. The group gave this an average rating of 6.6.

Type of Wh***ey Guess (Rye’d Bourbon, Wheated Bourbon, Rye Wh***ey, Other) : Rye’d Bourbon

Proof Guess : 97 proof

Age Guess : 5 Years

Distillery Guess : Laws Wh***ey House (?)

Nose : Caramel, Vanilla, Peaches, a distinct creaminess. Low amount of ethanol here, rather pleasant.

Palate : Follows the nose- lots of caramel, vanilla, oranges. Kinda’ fruity. Finish falls off a cliff but an enjoyable experience overall.

MSRP : $99.99

Score : 6- this is very good.

Reveal : Pursuit Series Episode 081 is the last remaining barrel of the company’s beloved 78% corn, 10% rye, and 12% malted barley mashbill from the original stock purchased at Bardstown Bourbon Co. This barrel proof bourbon is 8 years old, 126 proof, and is a core component of the Pursuit United bourbon blend, was available for $99.99 in their gift shop. The group gave this an average score of 5.9, with an average proof guess of 106.9. I was wayyy off on this one.

Double Eagle Very Rare.. damn, son. One of those bottles where I never really thought I’d get to try, but thanks to Ahmad, today’s the day. First and foremost, congratulations to him on the new house (among other things), where we got to enjoy this pour together. This is a 101 proof bourbon aged for, you guessed it, 20 years. This is buffalo trace’s mash-bill #1, the same as standard eagle rare 10 year. I believe this was specific bottle was from 2024, if that matters to you.

Nose : Soft and Layered. Caramel, vanilla, oak. There’s a grape taffy note here but you really have to search for it. Zero ethanol presence and very enjoyable overall. Surprised it wasn’t a bit more complex, however.

Palate : I have no idea what I was expecting to be honest, but this is very enjoyable. I mean hell, it should be. There’s the same grape note that we’ve come to know and love, but very tannin forward. The tannins start to slow down on the end of the mid palate and a bit of a grape soda note surfaces to begin the finish on this one. Finish is much longer than I thought it would be given the 101 proof- pleasantly surprised on that front. All in all, this is excellent. The mouthfeel is also impressive here- even knowing it was 20 years old, I didn’t quite expect it to hold up like jt did. I’m a big fan.

MSRP : Total price at OHLQ, out the door, was $3234. Yeowch… I mean seriously, OW.

Score : 8.7, but that definitely does not take into account the cost of admission. Worth a bar pour 1000 percent.

Dad’s been ripping Pokémon packs lately, but tbh, who hasn’t been. One thing I have NOT be doing is spending time with these Order of Nancy bottles, and it’s really time that we correct that. Today we’re looking at the recent 2026 Malted Oaxacan Green Corn Bourbon Wh***ey Single Barrel, clocking in at 124.98 proof.

From Still ATX : “Another version of one of our favorite experiments to date, we took a mash of 57% Texas-Grown Oaxacan Green Corn, 28% Malted Oaxacan Green corn, and 15% Texas-Grown Wildfire Malted Barley mash, distilled it, then aged it for 5 years and 11 months in various types of oak barrels. This specific barrel was one that we fell in love with after its nearly six years in an American oak, #3 charred barrel. 124.28 proof”.

Nose : mannnn this is somethin’. There’s an abundant earthiness present, but it’s so depthy. This pairs well with rye bread and butter notes- kinda smells like I’m at Outback Steakhouse. There’s some additional dark fruit notes present as well, maybe a plum?

Palate : Hell yeah dude. Love the velvety mouthfeel here- coats the entire palate. I get the same rye bread notes on the palate and they hang around for days. Additional notes of dark fruit, deep caramel, and barrel char. The finish on this lasts forever and the intensity here isn’t easily forgotten. Very unique pour- it doesn’t drink like any other Still Austin release I’ve had, yet.

MSRP : $90, not bad at all.

Score : 8.9, this is every bit of excellent and damn near one of my favorites I’ve tried from Still Austin. Bangin’ single barrel.

Dad’s back (grocery store was out of milk). This 2025 Still Austin Oated Straight Bourbon Wh***ey was released exclusively through Spec’s. The mash-bill on this guy is 56% Texas White Corn, 23% Malted Dark Munich Oats, 12% Wildfire Malted Barley, and 9% Naked Oats. The final blend for this clocked in at 111.8 proof. I’ve tried to gather as much information as I could find on this, and while not verified directly by Still Austin, I believe the following to be true:

This release consisted of ~540 total bottles, again, all exclusively sold through Spec’s. This release also consisted of the remaining barrels from the “Order of Nancy” Malted Oated Straight Bourbon Wh***ey- if that means anything to you (I won’t go too far into detail on that one).

Nose : Baker’s Chocolate. Grape Soda. Even more Chocolate. Super easy to nose, and very enjoyable. This is far different from a typical bourbon- it’s unique as can be.

Palate : I get a ton of Baker’s Chocolate/Cocoa on the palate too- it’s the most abundant note. This transitions to a cream soda note with a touch of grape, some other red fruits, maybe raspberry, as Still Austin suggests, and eventually a kick of spice. That spice is very unique as well- it’s not a black pepper-like spice, it’s got a spicier heat to it… almost like a habanero. Very fun to sip with a rather lengthy finish. I really appreciate the heftier mouthfeel on this pour.

MSRP : While unsure of what Spec’s charged, my best guess is about ~$85-$100. Secondary is at or above $350, currently.

Score : 8.5- this is a unique pour and an excellent release. It reminds me a bit of New Riff’s Winter Wh***ey, but with a bit more oomph and complexity.

It’s been a while since I’ve tried a new bourye! And hell, it’s been a while since I’ve posted at all. Was a nice break, though. Today we’re taking a look at Nashville Barrel Company/Nashtucky Wh***ey Company’s “The Compromise”. This is a 50/50 blend of 9 year Indiana bourbon, and 7 year Kentucky rye. The blend is proofed at 122.6, and the color isn’t too shabby either. So, how is it? ⬇️

Nose : The rye spice on the nose is dominant, but not overpowering. Tons of rye spice, a touch of a floral note, some vanillas, caramels, and oak. There’s a slight ethanol kick but overall, pretty dang enjoyable.

Palate : The palate is expresses a similar.. duality? Idk, weird word. What I’m trying to say is you get all those fun rye notes while also having a secondary complexity of those bourbon notes we all know and love. Notes of citrus and black pepper are here but also allow for some traditional notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak. This isn’t overly complex, nor does this drink disjointed, it’s just really good. Finish is on the longer side of medium and gives me a sort of creamsicle and rye spice vibe.

MSRP : $110, little on the high side, but it is a great pour.

Score : 6.8, very good.

Alrighty ladies and gentlemen, we last took a look at New Riff’s new 10 Year Bourbon, so let’s see how we’re feelin’ about the Rye. This is a 118.8 proof rye wh***ey, with a mash-bill of 95% rye and 5% malted rye. This has the makings to be a monster, and anyone that knows New Riff, knows they do Rye wh***ey right. Here’s my thoughts on this one ⬇️

Nose : Man I LOVE this nose. New Riff’s notes mention “ripe raspberry” and that very well could be why I love this. I get intense red fruit notes, lemon, clove, and a touch of spearmint. There may be some underlying white pepper or other sharp baking spice, but it only adds to the complexity here.

Palate : White pepper, Red fruits galore, spearmint, clove. This is a bright and vibrant pour with just enough complexity to warrant 25 more sips. I realllly like this bottle- more than their initial “First Decade” Rye, which is saying quite a bit. Finish is medium in length but brings about more red fruit and mint. Overall, this reminds me of Zebra Stripes or Juicy Fruit gum, but the flavors hang on for quite a bit longer.

MSRP : $89.99

Score : 9, this is incredible, and one of my favorite ryes in recent memory.

New Riff is out here. They’re doing things. We’re back at it today with their second release of 10 year wh***ey‼️Following their initial release, dubbed “First Decade Bourbon (and rye)”, we have batch 2. This is a 10 year bourbon, at 116.9 proof. That’s all I got- so here’s if it’s good or not⬇️

Nose : Rather soft nose in terms of ethanol, but very sweet. Notes of red fruits, vanilla extract, raisin, and softer baking spices are all present. Very pleasant and layered nosing experience.

Palate : Similar to the nose, there are a few layers to unpack here. A very sweet vanilla is upfront followed by a bit of dark fruit and oak. The finish is quite lengthy on this one, and highlights a bit of a creme brûlée note. The rye spice tends to ramp up a bit on the finish, which adds a fun depth.

MSRP : $89.99

Score : 8 - this is excellent wh***ey. I do prefer the “First Decade” bourbon by a bit as I remember it to be a touch more red fruit forward, but this is a nice follow up to their initial release!

Heyo! Green River treated me to something special and sent me their all new Toasted Double Oak Bourbon (thanks!).

“Green River Distilling Co. will debut its oldest liquid to date with the first in the new limited Distillery Select series, Toasted Double Oak Bourbon. Green River Distillery Select Toasted Double Oak will debut at the Owensboro distillery
on Saturday, June 20 and at the Louisville Tasting Room on Friday, June 26”.

This bourbon carries their traditional mash-bill of 70% corn, 21% rye, and 9% malted barley. This is an eight year product spending 6 months in secondary barrels. This batch of 13 choice barrels was bottled at 115.1 proof.

Nose : Stewed dark fruits, a touch of musk, and some brown sugar (I get this on most Green River product). The stewed dark fruits note is by far the most intense, but still not overwhelming. Very little ethanol presence on the nose.

Palate : A dark stewed fruit, like a plum(?), is the most dominant note here as well, and it’s definitely an enjoyable one. Underlying notes of brown sugar and a touch of oak are here on the mid palate. The end of the mid palate and into the finish presents an interesting note that I can’t quite name. It’s reminding me of creamed corn or something of the sort- it’s not off-putting, but it is unique. Finish is medium in length and comes back around to the darker fruit aspect.

MSRP : $49.99 for a 375ml

Score : 7, I really enjoy the dark fruit centric notes here!
