At the beginning of the May 26th meeting of the Gunnison City Council, Mayor Diego Plata noted to the audience that over the course of his tenure as mayor during the last six years, he has only seen the room with as many citizens present in the audience five times.

Over 50 citizens attended, drawn mostly by two agenda items: first, the swearing-in of three new police officers by Chief of Police Sam Costello; second, an update on the Gunnison Irrigation Ditch Master Plan.

Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC), in coordination with local emergency response agencies, will conduct a live emergency drill on Wednesday, May 20, from approximately 2 to 4 p.m.
This full-scale exercise is required by the Federal Aviation Administration and is conducted once every three years to ensure airport personnel and emergency responders are prepared to respond effectively in the event of an airport emergency. Importantly, the airport’s commercial flight schedule is not expected to be impacted.
