‼️PRESS RELEASE‼️

On Sunday, Nov. 23, at the request of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Special Agents assigned to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) launched an investigation into an officer‐involved shooting involving deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Guntersville Police Department.

The incident occurred when deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Guntersville Police Department conducted a joint child s*x predator operation in the 500 Block of Warrenton Shores Road in Guntersville, located within Marshall County. The suspect, identified as Jack Andrew Smiley, 27, of Muncie, Indiana, resisted arrest by attempting to flee and ultimately presented a weapon. Smiley was fatally wounded by gunfire and pronounced deceased at the scene. Two officers received minor injuries during the course of the incident and were treated on scene.

Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be
turned over to the Marshall County District Attorney’s Office.

BAD INTERSECTION TO GET A LOOK. The Alabama Department of Transportation will host a public information meeting regarding planned safety improvements for the intersection of US-431 and Buck Island Drive at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the ALDOT Guntersville Area Office, 23445 US-431, Guntersville, AL 35976. ALDOT requests attendees to please sign in at the front desk. The meeting will be held in the conference/training room.

USE CAUTION ON HIGHWAY 431 in front of Guntersville High. Police chief Ryan Darnell reports that a vehicle struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian is being med flighted to the hospital.

ATV FATALITY. A single-vehicle crash involving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) that occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, has claimed the life of a Scottsboro man. Brian K. Allen, 55, was fatally injured when the 2019 John Deere Gator ATV that he was driving, was struck by the 2018 Ford Flex driven by Amanda D. Weeks, 50, of Grant. After the initial impact, the John Deere left the roadway and overturned into a ditch.

Allen was not using a seat belt at the time of crash, was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene. Weeks was also injured and transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment. The passenger of the John Deere, Elijah E. Reed, 69, also of Scottsboro, was injured and airlifted to Huntsville Hospital for treatment. Reed was ejected and was not using a seat belt at the time of crash.

The crash occurred on Swearengin Road near Rice Road, approximately four miles east of Grant, in Marshall County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
