SHUMATE REMEMBERED. Everyone who knew him had a “Ronny Shumate story.” Here’s how Liz Hurley of WAFF 48 recalls him.

This is what Ronny Shumate looked like when I met him decades ago. He joked recently that his HPD badge still fits.
Humor carried him far.
He definitely knew how to spin a story, too.
Ronny was an officer and a gentleman. He was a proud DARE officer back in the day. Those students really respected him and the uniform.
Ronny worked side jobs in those days like a lot of officers. I remember being in a grocery store once when he nabbed a shoplifter for stealing porkchops from the meat department!
Stuffed right up her shirt!
What a scene in that Winn Dixie!
Ronny was always a public servant-not only as a police officer but as an Arab City Councilman ( even in the Press Box during “Knight” games) and Marshall County Commissioner. He was a family man, husband, devoted dad and even prouder grandfather.
He was also a friend.
Commissioner Ronny Shumate died last night and a lot of folks are feeling the loss.
Thinking about all his friends, family and constituents in Marshall County. His death leaves a big hole in a lot of hearts. Ronny is also the third commissioner to pass away in the last few months.

TRAFFIC SNARL. From our news partners at WAFF :

GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Traffic is backed up on U.S. 431 in Guntersville following a wreck Tuesday morning.

A WAFF 48 News crew on the scene said it appears at least two large trucks were involved. One is overturned and off the roadway on the northbound side of U.S. 431. The other, which appears to be a Lowe’s delivery truck, is stopped in the southbound lanes of the highway.

It’s unclear if anyone is hurt.

Guntersville Police and Guntersville Fire and Rescue are on the scene.

POLICE CHIEF RYAN DARNELL added that the wreck took place on 431 near County Park No. 1. It involved a Lowe’s delivery truck and a work truck. Two people were hurt and transported to the hospital.

UPDATE: FIRE CHIEF Brian Walls reports all minor injuries.
