“It's twelve noon in London, 7 am in Philadelphia, and around the world it's time for Live Aid.”
40 years ago today, the biggest benefit concert in the world was broadcasted to over 100 countries and reached 1.9 Billion people. Attended by 160,000 fans between Wembley Stadium in London and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia, the biggest stars in the world gathered together for an unforgettable day in 1985. Live Aid was the brainchild of Bob Geldof and Midge Ure and through their efforts they raised over £150 million to combat famine in Ethiopia.
Of course, the stand out act that day at Wembley was none other than Queen. Their set featuring Freddie Mercury’s iconic vocal exercises with the crowd etched itself into music history. Here’s Queen performing one of my favorite songs from the set: “Radio Ga Ga!”
