Do you have a shy reader who has a great love of cats, dogs, rabbits, or even guinea pigs? HSWC has a Reading to Animals Program for elementary school children!
Many children who are comfortable with animals do not feel judged by them, so the furry friends in our care make a great audience for shy, timid, or nervous readers (or for those who aren’t so shy, but simply love animals!). This is also equally beneficial for the animals, as research has shown that reading to the animals is fantastic enrichment for them!
We currently have limited time slots available for Reading to Animals orientation on September 22nd at 4:00pm. To sign up, please visit our website (https://www.hswcmd.org/volunteer). The orientation link for the Reading to Animals Program is near the bottom of the page. All children must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 21 at the orientation. We will be adding more orientation dates soon!
