Virginia Esther "Jenny" Redding in the Central Office above the old Hahira Post Office. She was the sister of William Elhanon and Thomas Leslie Redding. She lived with her brother W.E. Redding until his family began to outgrow the house. My mother remembered her living with them and reading in her collection of books. Mother started school in 1914, so it must have been no earlier than 1915 or 1916 that she got a job at the telephone switchboard and lived in an apartment in the building. She married Thomas Demere of Savannah, Nov. 20, 1917. They met through a personals column. They had one child together, a daughter, Genesther. Jenny contracted tuberculosis and Genesther only remembered being able to speak to her through the door of her bedroom.
