7/16 Rush/Big Bear Fire Update

07/16/2025

β˜€οΈ Sunny & Cooler Today
Temps drop a bit today thanks to yesterday’s cold front. Expect mostly clear skies with just a hint of smoke in the Sawtooth Valley before it clears out with the winds.

🌫️ Thursday: Smoke from the Cram Fire in Oregon could drift in and bring hazier skies.

β›ˆοΈ Friday: Monsoonal moisture returns, bringing a chance for isolated thunderstorms in the mountains. Stay alert if you're headed out!

πŸ—ΊοΈ We finally got maps!

πŸ”₯ The Big Bear Fire continues to grow slowly on its north, west, and south flanks. Still burning at a low to moderate rate with no large plumes yet.

🚨 Crews have installed pumps and sprinklers at Blacky Foster Cabin and Arctic Creek Lodge as a precaution in case the fire moves north (downstream on the Main) or jumps the river to the east.

πŸ”₯ Over on the Rush Fire, a handline has been built (looks like to the south) as the first line of defense for ’s Taylor Wilderness Research Station. That fire is spreading slower, but still working toward the facility.

πŸ”₯ Fire Update πŸ”₯
The Big Bear Fire continues to grow slowly to the south, west, and northβ€”mostly away from the Main Fork of the Salmon. It could pick up today with increased winds, but recent burn scars in its path should help limit spread.

The Rush Fire is showing even less activity, with minimal growth expected due to sparse timber and lighter fuels in that area.

πŸŽ† Happy 4th of July!

Kicking off the day with moderate to heavy rain, but skies should clear in time for the City of Hailey Days of the Old West Parade at NOON. β˜€οΈπŸŽˆ

That midday clearing could fire up afternoon thunderstorms, so keep your eyes on the sky! β›ˆοΈ

Good news: things look to calm down before evening fireworks. πŸŽ‡

Plan for rain and seek shelter if you hear thunder β€” when it roars, go indoors! βš‘οΈπŸ‘‚
