An unusual lag time occurred between when the earthquake happened and when seismic monitoring data became available.

With a lack of data, people began theorizing about what it could have been. Based on accounts from people living between Juneau, Haines and Skagway – depending on where people were they either heard or felt the earthquake first.

The Alaska Earthquake Center reported a magnitude 3 earthquake about 3:20 p.m. Monday about two miles south of Haines.

Did you feel that? We just got a good jolt in the office. No word from the earthquake center yet on how strong it was.

Can you guess how many pounds of fudge were purchased at Alaska Rods this year? How about the number of animals (that's cats, birds, dogs and rabbits) were adopted out by the Haines Animal Rescue Kennel? Or, how about the number of times people stopped by Klukwan's library to check out media since January 1, 2024?

All of these facts and more can be found in this year's Chilkat Valley Index.
