We Like What We Are Familiar With: I Am Familiar With What I Like

There is an undeniable comfort in the familiar. Whether it’s the taste of a mother's home cooking, the streets of one’s hometown, or the faces of long-known friends, these elements of familiarity shape our preferences and bring a sense of security and warmth. Familiarity creates a deep-seated affection that new experiences, though intriguing, often struggle to match. Let's explores the profound connection between familiarity and preference, the allure of the known, and the importance of occasionally stepping outside our comfort zones.

The Comfort of Home: Mother's Cooking and Hometowns
Mother’s home cooking stands as a quintessential example of the power of familiarity. The unique flavors, aromas, and textures of the dishes we grew up with are etched into our memories. These meals are more than just sustenance; they are symbols of care, love, and a sense of belonging. Every bite carries the essence of family traditions, cultural heritage, and personal history. This deep emotional connection makes mother's cooking incomparable to even the most gourmet restaurant fare.

Similarly, our hometowns hold a special place in our hearts. The streets we wandered as children, the local parks where we played, and the familiar faces of neighbors create a tapestry of nostalgia that new places can rarely replicate. The comfort of knowing every nook and cranny of our hometown instills a sense of pride and attachment that is hard to shake off, even as we explore new cities and cultures.

The Bond of Long-Known Friends
Old friends are the best friends, as the saying goes. The people we have known since childhood or for many years share a wealth of common experiences and memories. These bonds are forged through shared adventures, challenges, and milestones, creating a unique understanding and trust that newer relationships often lack. With old friends, there is no need for pretenses; we can be our true selves, knowing we are accepted and understood.

The familiarity of old friends provides a sense of continuity in an ever-changing world. They remind us of who we are and where we come from, offering a comforting anchor amidst life’s uncertainties. The shared history and common ground make interactions effortless and deeply satisfying, reinforcing the idea that the familiar holds a special attraction.

The Comfort of Familiar Activities and Places
Routine activities and familiar places also offer a unique sense of satisfaction. Whether it’s attending the same church, visiting a favorite coffee shop, or engaging in regular hobbies, these activities provide stability and joy. Familiarity with these routines and places allows us to relax and fully immerse ourselves in the experience without the anxiety that often accompanies new and unfamiliar activities.

The Importance of Broadening Horizons
While the familiar is undoubtedly comforting, it is essential to occasionally step out of our comfort zones. New experiences, people, and places offer opportunities for growth and learning. They challenge our perspectives and enrich our understanding of the world. By looking out the car window instead of gazing at our cell phones, we open ourselves to the wonders of the unknown and the potential for new, interesting encounters.

Old people, for instance, often have fascinating stories and wisdom to share. Engaging with them can provide new insights and deepen our appreciation for life’s complexities. Interesting people are interesting precisely because they bring different experiences and viewpoints into our lives, making us more well-rounded and empathetic individuals.

The familiar holds a special place in our hearts because it provides comfort, security, and a deep sense of connection. Mother’s home cooking, hometowns, old friends, and routine activities create a rich tapestry of familiarity that shapes our preferences and brings joy. However, it is also crucial to balance this affection for the familiar with a willingness to explore new horizons. By doing so, we can enjoy the best of both worlds: the warmth of the known and the excitement of the new. Ultimately, this balance enriches our lives, making us more adaptable, curious, and fulfilled individuals.

Title: "I can drive a car"
I can drive a car because my father and older sister taught me. I got a permit when I was 16 years old, and I drove around the empty campgrounds in the summer.
My sister was more fearless, and I would drive her car north on Route 87 to Plattsburgh, NY. But I can drive because I had good teachers.

I can fly an airplane! SR 22, single engine by Cirrus, up and down the east coast! Because I had a few great teachers,

I can throw a clay pot on the potter's wheel!
Oh, and I can split a honey bee hive and make two hives!
I can ride a bike, swim,
make a crystal radio and antenna! Thanks to the teachers I have had,
I can speak Korean/Spanish/Arabic a little!
I can make friends....
I can cook spaghetti! My mom taught me.
Best of all, I have had good teachers, I can love! I thank GOD

As many of you know, I have spent much of my career studying and evaluating individuals through various tests and assessments. These include the WISC, MMPI, and Rorschach inkblot test. These assessments help measure intelligence and identify strengths and weaknesses. While the full-scale IQ score is typically around 100, with a slight deviation being normal, there's one crucial aspect often overlooked in these evaluations: curiosity.

Curiosity is a powerful force that drives individuals to explore their environment and seek knowledge. Those who possess a strong sense of curiosity are constantly gathering information and details about the world around them. This active engagement fosters a broader perspective and a deeper understanding of their surroundings. In contrast, individuals with limited curiosity may have a narrower worldview, limiting their ability to adapt and grow.

Encouraging curiosity is essential for personal and professional development. By cultivating a curious mindset, individuals become more open to new ideas, experiences, and perspectives. This openness fosters creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, curiosity can lead to greater self-awareness and a deeper understanding of the world around us.

While intelligence tests provide valuable insights into cognitive abilities, they fall short in capturing the full spectrum of human potential. Curiosity, a vital component of human nature, should be recognized and nurtured. By embracing curiosity, individuals can unlock their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.

Kimchi, Burgers, and Familiarity: Why We Love What We Know!
Ever wonder why Korean food tastes like home in Korea, and hamburgers hit the spot in America? It all boils down to familiarity!

Here in Korea, we're spoiled for choice. Sure, rice, kimchi, and fish are classics, but there's a whole world of veggies and fruits to explore. It's food that Koreans young and old know and love.

Across the Pacific, the American diet is no different. Burgers, fries, and cheesy goodness might seem strange to us, but for Americans, it's comfort food! We all crave what we're used to – the taste, the smell, the whole experience.

So, the next time you struggle to stomach a new dish, remember: a balanced Korean meal is perfect for Koreans, and a balanced American meal keeps Americans going strong. 🇰🇷🇺🇸

Trading places? Pack your vitamins! But more importantly, keep an open mind and be adventurous – you might just discover a new favorite!

In fields of grace, we walk each day,
Guided by light, along the way.
Amazing love, how can it be?
Redeemed and free, eternally.
Beneath the Sun, we find our rest,
ANd never alone, we're truly blessed.
WIth mercy flows, a boundless stream,
In every trial, We our redeem.
Through every storm, Our peace abides,
In His presence, our soul finds its stride.
Great is Thy faithfulness, our songs shall rise,
To the King of kings, beyond the skies.
So let us sing with joyful voice,
We know our way and we rejoice.
For only by grace, are we truly saved,
In this love, our paths are paved.

En campos de gracia, caminamos cada día,
Guiados por la luz, en el camino que seguía.
Amor increíble, ¿cómo puede ser?
Redimidos y libres, eternamente.
Bajo el sol, encontramos nuestro descanso,
Y nunca solos, somos verdaderamente bendecidos.
