"Was" y "were" son las formas del pasado simple del verbo "to be" (ser/estar). La elección entre uno y otro depende del sujeto de la oración. Aquí te explico las reglas generales:

Usamos "was" con sujetos singulares:

I: I was tired last night. (Yo estaba cansado anoche.)

He: He was at the library yesterday. (Él estuvo en la biblioteca ayer.)

She: She was happy to see him. (Ella estaba feliz de verlo.)

It: It was a beautiful day. (Era un día hermoso.)

Sustantivos singulares: The cat was sleeping on the sofa. (El gato estaba durmiendo en el sofá.)

Pronombres singulares: This was my favorite song. (Esta era mi canción favorita.)

Usamos "were" con sujetos plurales y con "you":

You: You were late for the meeting. (Tú llegaste tarde a la reunión. / Ustedes llegaron tarde a la reunión.)

We: We were studying English. (Nosotros estábamos estudiando inglés.)

They: They were playing in the park. (Ellos estaban jugando en el parque.)

Sustantivos plurales: The students were very attentive. (Los estudiantes estaban muy atentos.)

Pronombres plurales: These were the books I needed. (Estos eran los libros que necesitaba.)

* What do they calle You? = ¿Cómo te llaman?

* Your name, please ? = ¿Tu nombre, por favor?

* Can i ask your name = ¿Puedo preguntar tu nombre?

* May i know your name? = ¿Puedo saber tu nombre?

* What should i call You? = ¿Cómo debería llamarte?

Para invitar:

Ask + someone + to + (place/event):

He asked her to the dance. (Él la invitó al baile.)

Ask out: (invitar a salir en una cita)
He finally asked her out. (Finalmente la invitó a salir.)

Errores comunes a evitar:

NO uses "ask to someone". El verbo "ask" no necesita la preposición "to" cuando se refiere a la persona a la que le preguntas.

Incorrecto: I asked to her if she had any plans.

Correcto: I asked her if she had any plans.

Incorrecto: Let's ask to the teacher.

Correcto: Let's ask the teacher.

Ask + (object) + a favor: (pedir un favor)
