South Florida’s newest kids-focused fitness facility has babies, teens and every age between them covered. Opening Oct. 1, The Rec Room will teach biomechanics, body awareness, teamwork and athletic fundamentals through programs spanning Baby Movers, Little Movers, Rising Athletes and Performance. The 3,500-square-foot facility comes from local parents Ty and Amanda Stone, whose experience with youth soccer sparked an idea built around stronger coaching and lifelong movement skills. Shopapalooza Festival lands at St. Petersburg’s Vinoy Park Nov. 28–29 with over 350 local shops, artists, makers and nonprofits, four food halls, 40-plus dining vendors, two music stages, a beer garden, community mural, adoptable pet parade, Kidpreneurs Row and a 10,000-square-foot outdoor glam lounge. Las Olas, it’s been a good run. The Community Foundation of Broward has purchased a three-story building at 200 North Andrews Avenue, with a move planned for early 2028. The new address puts its donors and nonprofit collaborators near the proposed City Hall site, the county government center and Brightline. Haircuts, straight-razor shaves, facials, manicures, pedicures and complimentary smoked old fashioneds are on their way, Oakland Park. Hammer & Nails will open a second Broward location at 2051A E. Oakland Park Blvd. in early October, bringing its extensive men’s grooming menu, televisions at every station, spacious member lounge and shaded patio along for the ride. Before the first official cuts, the community is invited to preview the new shop Sept. 28 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., complete with natural wine, music, tours of the space and an opportunity to book the first service reservations. Class is back in session at one of Broward’s most famously haunted buildings, but this lesson comes with cocktails. The Old Davie School will become a 21-and-older spook-easy on Oct. 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. with specialty drinks, light bites and a tipsy tour through local history inside rooms where visitors have reported phantom footsteps, moving chairs and unexplained voices.
