Special Flying Classroom presentation by Captain Barrington Irving

In 2007, a 23 year old Captain Barrington Irving set two world records as the youngest person and first Black pilot to fly solo around the world. Now 36 years of age, Captain Irving is the resident instructor for the Flying Classroom that provides K-8th grade students with a unique digital STEM curriculum.
The aviation pioneer will make a special virtual Flying Classroom presentation via Zoom as one of the highlights of the 2020 Marcus Garvey Rootz Extravaganza scheduled for Monday, August 17, 2020, starting at 7:00 p.m. DST.
Dr. Julius Garvey, son of Pan-American/Pan-African hero Marcus Garvey, will be the guest of honor for the Rootz Extravaganza celebrating the 133rd anniversary of the birth of the Jamaican National Hero. The program for the birthday celebration also includes Jamaican Consul General Oliver Mair, Dr. Anthony Hall, Priest Douglas Smith, Hal Anthony, Shauna Dazzle, Queen Maxine and a Boundless Kreations fashion show.

2019 Marcus Garvey Rootz Extravaganza

The 2019 Marcus Garvey Rootz Extravaganza celebrates Garvey’s 132nd birthday anniversary and the 100th anniversary of his Black Star line Steamship Company, in this, Ghana’s 2019 “year of return”.

Saturday, August 17, 2019, 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm, Lauderdale Lakes Educational and Cultural Center, 3580 Oakland Park Blvd, Lauderdale Lakes.

Guest speaker, Marcus Garvey historian, UWI lecturer and author, Professor Clinton Hutton.
The program includes community service awards and appearances by Shemana, Sister Moy, Pablove Black and the Drumming Fingers Dance Troupe. Admission free.
All taking place under the patronage of Jamaican Consul General Oliver Mair.

2018 MARCUS GARVEY ROOTZ EXTRAVAGANZA
Friday, August 17, 2018 has been proclaimed “Marcus Garvey Appreciation Day” in the City of Lauderdale Lakes in honor of the 131st anniversary of the birth of the Jamaican and Pan-American hero.
The Marcus Garvey Day proclamation was signed by Lauderdale Lakes Mayor Hazelle Rogers and presented to the Rootz Foundation Inc in preparation for the 2008 Marcus Garvey Rootz Extravaganza on Friday August 17, 2018 from 7.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.
The Marcus Garvey Extravaganza takes places at the Lauderdale Lakes Educational & Cultural Center located at 3580 W. Oakland Park Boulevard in Lauderdale Lakes. Entry is free. The event includes audio-visual presentations, music and dance, community service awards and food and refreshments.
