On July 3rd, our community suffered an unimaginable loss with the tragic passing of 15-year-old Koa Dumont of Farmington, who drowned at the Hallowell Quarry Pond. Koa was a bright, kind, and driven young man—from all accounts he was a beloved student and athlete at Mt. Blue High School, and the son of a faculty member deeply connected to the school community. What began as a summer outing with friends ended in heartbreak, as cold-water shock claimed his life after a leap from a quarry ledge. Rescue crews responded swiftly, but despite their efforts, Koa could not be revived. His absence leaves a silence that stretches through classrooms, playing fields, and the hearts of all who knew him.

To Koa’s family, friends, and the entire Mt. Blue community, The Hallowell Post extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences. There are no words that can fill the space Koa leaves behind, but we join you in mourning and remembrance. As we reflect on this loss, let us also renew our commitment to safety, awareness, and to cherishing those we hold dear. Koa’s memory will endure—in stories, in tears, and in the love that surrounds his name.

Wow! Our School Lunch Team is Awesome!

Guess what? The people who make our school lunches at RSU 2 are super special! They just won a big award from the people in charge of food for the whole country! It's like getting a gold medal for making the best and healthiest lunches for kids in small towns like ours.

Why did they win?

They're like food detectives! They make sure our lunches have just the right amount of salt to be healthy.

They listen to you! They find fun ways to get kids like you involved in choosing what's for lunch.

They love fruits and veggies! They make sure we get yummy fresh fruits, vegetables, and good-for-you whole grains in our meals.

They work with local farmers! This means we get super fresh food grown right near our school!

The President for Healthy Kids Rob Bisceglie said this award helps show off how schools can make really good and healthy meals for kids.

This award shows something we already knew: our lunch team works really hard every day to make sure you feel good and ready to learn. When you eat a healthy lunch, it helps your body grow strong, your brain think better, and do great in school!

So, let's all give a big cheer for our amazing school lunch heroes! They help make sure every kid in RSU 2 has the good food they need to do their best in school and have fun!

Thankfully, nobody was killed.

Thankfully, nobody was killed.

Drive safe folks. Here is a PERFECT reminder to be attentive and avoid losing control of your vehicle. Multiple 911 calls today for this Winthrop street crash. The crash involved one vehicle which nearly struck a school bus. The driver was distracted at the time of the crash and over corrected while avoiding the stopped school bus. The 19 year old Lewiston woman was charged for operating without a license, operating with a suspended registration, failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle and failing to display a valid inspection. Thank you to Augusta Rescue, Hallowell Fire, Manchester Fire, and Capitol PD for assistance treating the injured and managing scene safety.

Mark your calendars!
