Memorial Day services in the area:
Burrton
A Memorial Day service will be held in Burrton on Monday, May 25, at the Burrton Cemetery at 10:30 a.m.
They will have a speaker from McConnell Air Force Base.
Halstead
A series of services for Bently and Halstead will begin on Memorial Day at 9 a.m. at the Bentley Cemetery. The American Legion will then hold two services in Halstead, one at Pine Park (corner of First and Main Streets) at 9:45 a.m. and then at Halstead Cemetery (north of town near Highway 50) at 10:15
Legion Commander Larry Dennos said all times are approximate, as they move from one location to the next.
The Legion also encourages people to help with the flags on Memorial Day. They will set them up at 6 a.m. and take the flags down at 5 p.m.
“We’d appreciate anybody’s help,” Denno said.
Sedgwick
A wreath service honoring those who served at sea starts at 9:30 a.m. at the bridge west of town on 4th Street. It will include playing taps and throwing a wreath in the water.
The Avenue of Flags ceremony will be at Hillside Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. The meeting is at the north location in front of the flags. The program will consist of patriotic music, decoration of the memorial, gun salute and reading of the names of the flags that were received.
The flags that will be raised are flags donated by families of deceased veterans.
Volunteers will meet at the cemetery at 6 a.m. on Monday to raise the flags. Coffee will be served at the post after the flags have been raised. Members will meet again at the cemetery at 6 p.m. to take the flags down. The flags are then taken to the post for folding and put into storage.
