Boil advisory issued for City of Sidney

Chris Sokolowski, Sidney Public Works, at 712-242-7949

A boil advisory has been issued for the City of Sidney in Fremont County. The advisory is due to a water main break near the intersection of Filmore Street and 290th Avenue, requiring the depressurization of the entire system.
The city is working with Fremont County Emergency Management, and a contractor is in route to begin repairs. Once repairs are completed the area will be disinfected and the distribution system will be flushed.
Approximately 1,100 residents are affected by the break. City officials are notifying residents via postings in town, on the city page, and radio broadcasts.
There is no reason to believe water quality will be compromised, but as a precaution, customers are encouraged to boil water that will be consumed or used for food preparation. Water should be boiled for two minutes and allowed to cool before use. Water is safe to use for showering, laundry, general washing and outdoor use without boiling.
Two sets of bacteria samples will be collected for testing. The boil advisory will be lifted once two consecutive sets of bacterial samples have tested negative for bacteria.

If you have trouble on railroad tracks, the blue sign has your back. That’s the message the Iowa Department of Transportation’s rail safety team wants the public to recognize and understand about the Emergency Notification System (ENS) signs. Operation Lifesaver’s National Emergency Notification System (ENS) Sign Awareness Day is Wednesday, June 24, 2026, but knowing what the signs mean and how to use them in an emergency situation is vital to motorist and pedestrian safety year-round.
