SCAM ALERT – FAKE RENTAL LISTINGS IN CAMERON MO
The Cameron Police Department is currently investigating two active fraud cases involving a scammer posing as the owner of a home at 520 W. 3rd Street. The suspect is believed to be operating multiple fake Facebook rental accounts.
Important Details:
• The home at 520 W. 3rd Street is NOT a rental property.
• Victims are being asked to send $425, $525, or $750 (plus fees) via Chime just to view the property.
• The scammer provides very convincing Facebook profiles and fake lease agreements to trick victims.
• Some have already fallen victim and sent money without ever seeing the home or meeting anyone in person.
DO NOT send money for any rental or viewing fee without first meeting the person face to face and completing a walkthrough of the property.
How to protect yourself:
• Always verify the property owner or manager through trusted sources.
• Never pay viewing fees for a rental.
• Be cautious of listings that seem too good to be true or pressure you to act quickly.
• Report suspicious activity to the Cameron Police Department.
