There's so much happening in the world right now. Where to focus our attention can be overwhelming.
This evening I'm thinking of a little community of around ten thousand people on the border of Israeli and Syria- Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights. It's been an Isrelaeli-occupied territory since 1967.
It's a unique place, where they grow plump cherries, famous apples, and olives among other delicious things. They even have a ski resort.
Dear friends of mine from my younger years live there. They are some of the most gentle, vivacious and energetically clear people I've ever known. I feel grateful to have been part of their lives and their culture for several years, although I regretfully did not wholeheartedly appreciate all of it until years later.
Their quiet community was going about their business a few days ago, when they were suddenly hit by a rocket. Some young ones were having fun playing soccer. The rocket hit the field, 12 kids died and 30 were injured. Countless others witnessed this and will be forever scarred. The community is rattled, heartbroken, and in shock. I'm saddened and scared for them that an all out war might ensue.
I'm sending out waves of love to anyone and everyone who is suffering at the hands of giant powers and unstoppable egos, especially my friends and their loved ones. And yet again, I'm holding love and hope in one hand and sadness and despair in the other. 🌊💙.
