Hamilton junior Josh Webb clocks personal-best to win at Tennessee River Classic

MONTGOMERY – Hamilton High School junior Josh Webb continued his streak of recording personal-record times, landing him in the first AHSAA Cross Country Spotlight of the 2024 season.
Hamilton won the in the Class 1A-4A boys race with a personal-record time of 16:11.28 at the Brooks High Tennessee River Classic in Florence. He set personal bests in the 800- and 1,600-meter races at the AHSAA Outdoor Track and Field championships earlier this year in Gulf Shores and also PR’d in the 3,200 meters at the 2024 outdoor section meet in Trussville.
In the season-opening cross country meet at Florence’s McFarland Park, he delivered the meet’s fastest time by an Alabama runner and set a new personal 5K record by about 15 seconds.
On the girls’ side, James Clemens senior Kylie Gero, who competed in the North-South All-Str competition in Montgomery during All-Str Sports Week last month, clocked 18:55.55 to win the Class 5A-7A race at the Brooks High School Tennessee River Classic at Florence’s McFarland Park. She beat Hartselle freshman Grace Goldman by about 20 seconds.
The 2024 cross country season began with a handful of meets last week, but it kicks into high gear this weekend with the Mobile Challenge of Champions and the Scottsboro Invitational on the schedule. The regular season runs through late October, followed by section meets scheduled for Oct. 31 through Nov. 2 at various sites. The 2024 AHSAA Cross County Championships are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park.
