What does ‘Old Line’ mean?

It’s rather simple!

In the late 80s early 90s a group of old line durocs were exported to Canada and I believe Denmark where they added a Belgium pig named Pietran. Those pigs were shipped back to the USA and used fairly extensively in the Duroc herd.
The hogs prior to this introduction of Pietran are all considered ‘Old Line’ and they came in all shapes and sizes. Some were more muscular with depth and others were larger framed and others were in between.
The thing to know is they are all considered old line no matter their type and kind.

Some breeders chose to utilize these imported genetics to stay in business while a handful of breeders chose to preserve the old lines they were working with at the time.
Not one of them own the title Old Line.

This particular boar, Rebel Perfection, really caught my eye as he is a 1964 model. He provides evidence that the there were all kinds of old line hogs.

Today old lines are rare but the ones available today also are different in type and kind!
