The North Gleason Clubhouse (Pavilion) was a central part of African American life in Gary, Indiana. The future of the structure is now undetermined but we can still look on its past as an important part of Region history. Here is the latest installment of our Calumet Chronicles project working with the Calumet Heritage Area.

RIP Junior Bridgeman:

Bridgeman was born in East Chicago, Indiana. He went to college at University of Louisville, where he played basketball from 1972-1975. His team made it to two Final Fours.

Bridgeman then went on to play more than a decade in the NBA, mostly with the Milwaukee Bucks.

After his basketball career came to a close, Junior was known as an wise businessman who owned hundreds of restaurants and purchased Ebony and Jet magazines in recent years.

Many stories about Bridgeman's kindness and generosity has been told around the Region. We should be proud he was one of our own.
