The JEDtv Sports Network offers our heartfelt condolences and will forever remember Bobby Jenks.

A former Chicago White Sox All-Star and 2005 World Series Champion, Bobby Jenks passed away on July 4 in Sintra, Portugal, after a battle with adenocarcinoma, a form of stomach cancer. He was just 44 years old.

Jenks was a fierce competitor on the mound and a key part of the White Sox bullpen during their historic championship run. His passion for the game and larger-than-life presence will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace, Bobby. ๐Ÿ–คโšพ

Pending school board approval, ๐‡๐š๐ง๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ ๐‚๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐ฅ ๐š๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐œ ๐’๐š๐ฆ๐ฉ๐จ๐ ๐ง๐š๐ซ๐จ will officially take over as head coach of the Wildcats baseball program. A 2011 graduate and former second baseman in the Wildcatsโ€™ 2011 state runner-up team, Sampognaro served as interim head coach at the end of the 2025 season and has also been an assistant on multiple state tournament runs.

He currently oversees athletic grounds and facilities at Hanover and is no stranger to the players or community.

โ€œThis isnโ€™t a huge change of scenery for the guys. I know all of them, and I believe I have a good relationship with the key players coming back,โ€ said Sampognaro, whose focus will be on building team chemistry, reducing pressure, and reigniting a love for the game.

Hanover Central finished ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ-๐Ÿ– last season and returns several college-committed players heading into a tough 3A sectional that includes Andrean, Lowell, Illiana Christian, Kankakee Valley, and River Forest.

The Wildcats are also currently constructing a ๐ง๐ž๐ฐ ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐Ÿ ๐ก๐จ๐ฆ๐ž ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ž๐ฅ๐, expected to be completed by September.

Sampognaroโ€™s early staff includes ๐‰๐š๐ซ๐ž๐ ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ข๐š (Class of 2021) and ๐’๐š๐ฆ ๐Œ๐จ๐ฆ๐œ๐ข๐ฅ๐จ๐ฏ๐ข๐œ (Class of 2019).

HS Baseball: Just over a week ago, the Boone Grove Athletics baseball team won its first State Championship since 2018. The team was playing for a bigger purpose this season, and dedicated its historic run to Coach Sean Riley's son Max who is battling cancer.
